The Sheilds of Clangeddin Silverbeard

The Order of the Sheilds of Clangeddin is a militant order resident among the Hill Dwarven clans. Members of the Sheilds are selected from Dwarven armies, and only accomplished veterans (3rd level fighters or higher) are chosen.

In order to join the Sheilds, a Hill Dwarf must have fought at a battle on behalf of the Hill Dwarves, and been victorious. Being that their patron is the Dwarven God of battle, defeated or weak Dwarves are never allowed join the Order. Dwarves who are considered for ordination are given a quest by the head of the Order, usually a Militant Priest of Clangeddin, and then left to complete their task. These quests are usually combat oriented, and generally involve the killing or sanction of a clan enemy. An example would be to kill the shaman of a neighbouring goblin tribe, or warrior leader of a hobgoblin tribe. When the quest is completed, the Dwarf is ordaned into the Order.

In Hill Dwarven society, the Sheilds of Clangeddin assume the roles of war leaders, raiders, elite infantry, and occassionaly guardsmen.

To the outsider, the Sheilds are most known for their axe fighting style, which is both devastating in effect, and horrific to behold.

There are also rumours of a splinter group of the Sheilds, who are rumoured to ride giant boars into battle. They have only been mentioned in scattered reports, but the existence of such Beast Riders has never been proven.
