East Fingask was used a Satellite Airfield for Dyce (Aberdeen) . There
is no sign today of anything, which indicate that it, was ever used.
The site is all farmlands. Evelyn Munro of the Meldrum & Bourtie Heritige Society put me in touch with Peter Myers and Akki Manson who in turn put me onto George Ritch who between them gave me some good history.
East Fingask was used when there was an alert at RAF Dyce, Akki remembers as a boy seeing Anson's at Fingask. George, also a boy then, moved down from Orkney in 1944 and now lives on the farm said that 82 Acres were used for a landing strip and that one bulding still stands from the old site. George never remembers seeing aircraft there but recalls it wasn't ideal for it's purpose. George does recall speaking to a late friends who saw 9 aircraft parked at Fingask.
A Friend of Peter Myers, Bill Greig recalls as many at 13 Ansons parked at the airstrip. Peter also went on to say that Avro Anson mk 1s of 612 Squadron (City of Aberdeen) were flow here to make the less vunerable during any attacks on the airfield at Dyce, 612 operated the Ansons until Dec 1940 when the were replaced with Whitleys.
The only wartime remains of the airfield is a single hut beside East Fingask Farm.
