Kauai June 13

On the third day we kind of cooled our heals spending some time on the beach at the resort.

This was the view out our front door, except that we stayed on the 2nd floor. Too much rock and surf for swimming, but we could get wet wading and played in the surf anyway. Pat enjoyed watching the crabs and tiny fish in the tide pools.

The resort was real quiet and few people were on the beach.

(Right) We did venture out and visit several waterfalls. Wailua Falls was featured in the television series "Fantasy Island". A very nice water falls and easy to get at, but really hard to view, fences and signs are trying to protect them from "people like us" :>) This falls is about 80ft high, neat.

(Above) We watched this pair of Monk Seals surfing in the waves as they worked down the beach in front of the our resort. They ended up crawling up on the beach about 200ft from our room and spent almost all day sunning and sleeping

(Right) This is common Monk Seal behavior. They do this to escape predators and rest (not needing to swim.) This pair are about 7 or 8 feet long. They are big! They are protected and endangered, stiff fines are levied if you disturb them and force them to return to the sea before they are ready. The tourist wanted to be close to this pair, but except for a single eye open once in a while,or a grunt, they paid little attention. When a wave reached them, they would just scoot farther up on the beach and return to their nap :>)
