"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship."
-- Romans 12:1
Today I stood quietly
Their eyes cried out to me
Follow me, do what I say
A wave of fear washed over me
My child, I was rejected
Follow me, do what I say
And as I stood there
My child, I can see you are ready to follow me
Keep on showing them
a dot in the middle of a busy world
everywhere people rushing
not stopping to breathe
Their schedules are busy
their lives are full
but their hearts are empty
of the one thing they need most
as I questioned them silently
but then they looked away
cold-hearted and lost
So I turned to the One
who I knew could help them
I said, "Father what can I do?"
And something in me didn't like the answer:
give no thought
to the suffering you might take
place yourself as a living sacrifice
on the altar for me
Then I'll show you how to help them
but you must not back down
you must place your life in my hands
Father, what if they reject me?
What if they insult me?
Tear at my soul with their vicious minds and curses?
And break my heart because of their suffering?
What if I stand alone?
What if no one comes to rescue me?
He spoke with a firm gentleness
I was spit apon and insulted
They tore my side with a sword
They broke my flesh with a crown of thorns
I stood alone and no angels came
to take me off the piece of wood I hung on
I have gone through more than you could imagine
I bore the weight of sin and pain on my shoulders
give no thought
to the suffering you might take
place yourself as a living sacrifice
on the altar for me
Then I'll show you how to help them
but you must not back down
you must place your life in my hands
before the throne of grace
tears began to flow
down my pale cheeks
I fell to the ground
and my shoulders shook
I love you Father
and if you want me to die I will die
if my heart must be smashed
because of the insults they throw so be it
if my soul must be ripped I will stand strong
I will give anything to see their eyes light up
with the love of You
and do what I say
you will give no thought
to the suffering you might take
You have placed yourself as a living sacrifice
on the altar for me
I will now show you how to help them
but you must not back down
you must not let go of my hand
and never let go of my hand
"Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, then comes the harvest'? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest."
