Reprise: Paradise Revisited

There remained only an emptiness profound.

I had nothing left, no wish, no craving, no dreams at all;
My days and my nights were now fraught with tears and pain,
There was no one, but myself and the memories of an unrequitted love.

My heart was immersed in darkness, my world in pain;
My songs were awash with tears.
I wandered aimlessly and stumbled about, in those streets
Where I had seen and sought after her,
Where I had laughed aloud - only to weep later,
Where I had gained her, and lost, too,
Where there used to be young redolent blooms in vibrant shades
And we had celebrated Love in each step,
My heart alight and sparkling, like stars in the firmament,
Where I had dreamt of my journey's end -
A secure mooring for the ship of my life,
Where I had attained a moment of respite,
Where, in the days gone by, her finely-sculpted arms were linked with mine,
My eyes arrested on her pretty face,
Words flowing soft and infinitely caring,
My palms enfolding her soft hands,
Where we had chanted tunes of passion,
Envisaging a life of bliss,
Where I had confided my emotional state
And had pledged my life and death,
Cutting across norms of the world,
Where affection had showered galore
And Ecstasy gripped me for the first time.

Now those paths were deserted and perplexed,
Like my heart - unsure of where my dreams had evaporated.

Such were the gloomy thoughts, when I was wandering alone...
All on a sudden, stars twinkled in the sky,
A buzz of excitement filled the air,
Someone called out to me, and I turned -
To perceive the lost sanctuary of my soul, my
objet d'desire and devotion,
Hair ruffled, lips quivering, eyes moist - a little confused, a little uncertain,
Silently probing into my eyes for presence of ire and injury.

Oh, but my eyes were lit with love profound!
The arms were linked anew, sorrows were soon a thing of the past...

The season transformed;
The horizon broke out in steps. So did the stars, the sky and the air.
The surroundings whistled a lilting tune: The Ballad of Our Love,

...And happily everafter...
