Memories of Paradise Lost

I had met someone.

And my whole world had seemed to have metamorphosed
Into a season of melody, with a deluge of colors and fragrant gales;
The ambience had freshened, a merry wind breezed by -
And I was lost in my track.
Desires shaped themselves, a storm seethed in my sigh,
Sweet verses arose dancing on my lips.

Oh, Someone had come and captivated my sight,
And had walked straight into my heart!

Oh, how do I describe her winsome smile,
Her dark locks caressing that pretty face -
Like a rose blossoming into the sun,
Like a glimpse of the moon escaping from the clouds,
Like upon drawing apart the blinds of night, emergence of a new day - bright,
Bright eyes bathed in dream and draped in love.
She had spoken, each single sound strewn with pearls,
Like reverberating silver bells,
Like a chalice shattering into thousand pieces,
Like the pervasive euphony of a lyre,
Like a mellifluous voice enlivening a moonlit night,
Like a soft beckoning.
Oh, how engaging were those words, how intriguing the tryst,
When I discovered to my joy how a glance can melt the heart,
How a few words may determine a life's orbit -
How the moon in her sparkling glory descends to earth,
And transmutes this mundane world to Paradise!
She had told me, and she had taught me,
That we were destined to meet thus, as we have been through ages;
That 'twas a bond, it was a kinship
That had transcended the cycles of birth and death.
My senses were in a whirl, I was painfully alive to the duality:
The land of dreams - that was so vibrant and vivid;
The land of dreams - that is only illusory, that has no existence?
The first light of the day shone, I opened my eyes to learn,
She who had come and captivated my sight, and had walked straight into my heart,
Had departed, too -
And now there remained only an emptiness profound.

I have nothing left, no wish, no craving, no dreams at all;
My days and my nights are now fraught with tears and pain.

There is no one, but myself and the memories of an unrequitted love.
