Quasimodo’s Story

Locked away his entire life in the bell tower, sweet, innocent Quasimodo is the bell ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral. Told by Frollo, his cruel guardian, that he is a monster and will never be accepted, Quasimodo quietly, sadly accepts his situation, all the while dreaming of being out there.
However, his poignant longing to be part of the life he sees below comes true on the day of the Feast of Fools when he is able to mingle with the people of Paris without being noticed as being different. He is even crowned King of Fools by the gypsy king, Clopin. Sadly, the crowd turns vicious and poor Quasi is humiliated again, this time by the people he wanted so badly to belong to. He is saved from their tormenting by the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda who befriends him and teaches him that he is not monster. She shows him that his sweet and gentle soul has a rare beauty of its own.
Motivated by her kindness, Quasimodo finds the will to team up with Phoebus, Esmeralda's love, to save the gypsies from Frollo's persecution. In the end, Quasi discovers the courage to swing down from the high bell tower of Notre Dame and save Esmeralda from Frollo's fire, "Sanctuary!!" he cries, holding her aloft. His courage and worth found, Quasi heroically confronts and defeats the evil Frollo.
The battle won, Quasimodo emerges from the cathedral with his friends a hero. "Three Cheers for Quasimodo!!" Yells Clopin as the crowd picks up their hero and carries him through Paris. Quasimodo is finally part of the world out there.
