2. Chapter News

Bake Sale News: Bob Quin gave a report of the money made during our bake sale.   Monday’s total was $137.30, Tuesday’s total was $77.90, and Wednesday’s total was   $75.00, for a grand total raised of $290.20! Lori Tate thanked all of those who    participated and commented on the fact that all of the proceeds raised will go to buy   school supplies for the Goodman Elementary School.

Missouri Honor’s Institute: To be held on November 8-10 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri.   Dr. Broglio has committed to attending if there are any members that would like to go.   Cost range is $125-$145, and Lee Haskins is going to approach the Student Government   for funds to help defray the cost. A couple of members said they would like to go and   Lori Tate will get more information as soon as possible to pass on to those interested.

Awards/Attendance Program: Lori Tate would like a list of those members who brought   things to our bake sale, so we can give proper credit to those who participated. During   our Christmas Banquet those who participate in PTK will be recognized and receive   awards.

PTK Flag: Mrs. Schumaker informed us that a flag has been ordered.

PTK Shirts: When given the option of personalized or plain shirts, those in attendance   liked the idea of personalizing them. Bob Quin will find the cost of embroidering decals   and Stephanie Jordon will get the cost of screen printing them. They will report back at   the next meeting. Designs created by members will also be presented then. A final   decision will be made at that time.

Web Site: Lee Haskins will have the web site finished on October 22. He will then go to   info-tech to make a link to the school web page. Web site address is     geocities.com/ptkxixi.

3. Student Government

Lee Haskins informed us that there is no new information to report from the Student   Government.

4. Community Service Project

School supplies: We will be making a December delivery of school supplies to Goodman   Elementary, at the principle’s request. It will be made during the week of December 2-6.   Members are leaning toward December 6 to combine with our Holiday Banquet.   Stephanie Jordan will contact the principle to see what will be good for her and report   back. Our final decision will be made at our next meeting.

Trash pick-up: Our next trash pick-up will be Wednesday, November 6 and 1:30. We   will meet again at the flagpole. Lee Haskins informed us that our designated area covers 2   miles. Lynn Schuster suggested that we go to the farthest point and work our way back.   Lori Tate suggested that if enough people participate we can divide the area up. We   will discuss a definite plan at our next meeting.

5. Fund Raiser

Bake Sale: . Since our first bake/craft sale went so well all in attendance decided to do it   again in November. The dates set are Monday, November 25 and Tuesday, November 26   from 9-1 each day. Lynn Schuster will send around a sign up sheet at our next meeting   for those who will volunteer. Lee Haskins motioned that this new project be accepted and   Shirley Armstrong seconded it. 1. Meeting Minutes

Lynn Schuster, Secretary, read the minutes. Bob Quin made a motion that the minutes be   accepted. Motion seconded by Shirley Armstrong. Motion was approved by all in   attendance.

2.  Orientation

Potential Membership Letters: Lori Tate, Lynn Schuster, and potential member    Stephanie Jordan met the deadline of stuffing and mailing the membership invitation   letters. A total of 192 were sent out on Sept. 6. A sign-up sheet for the orientation will   be hung on Mrs. Schumaker’s door for all those who wish to attend.

Orientation Date: Set for Wednesday, September 18, 2002; 1:30 - 2:30 p.m., with those   helping to set-up arriving at 12:30. All officers present at the orientation will be asked to   stand and introduce themselves and say why they are part of PTK.

Menu: Lori Tate will contact the school cafeteria to see if they can make food trays for   our orientation at a comparable price. She will contact us with the information as soon as   she receives it. We all agreed that we should have the school cafeteria provide the food if   at all possible. If that doesn’t work out we will go with our original food assignments.

Induction Ceremony: Date set for Saturday, September 28, 2002 at 10 a.m., with those   helping to set-up arriving at 8:30 a.m. Lori has volunteered to get the flowers for the   ceremony and other assignments will be made at the next meeting. Since our topic   for the speaker will be health the 1st choice for a guest speaker is Jamie Stanley and 2nd   choice is Millie Gillion. Lori will ask Jamie and if need be Lynn will ask Millie.

2. Meetings

Our next meeting will be September 23, 2002 at 12 noon.

3. Chapter News

Attendance: Lori will get approval for posters to place around the school informing   members of meeting times and upcoming events. It was suggested that the small calendar   that Lori made us be enlarged and also placed on bulletin boards to encourage attendance.   That was agreed on by all members present. Lee Haskins suggested that we form a   committee at a later date to help advertise our events to all students. Lori Tate made a   suggestion that we could set up a table during the orientation to ask potential members   what they can help with and place them on a committee right away. Mrs. Schumaker gave   us the phrase: PARTICIPATION = ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP = SCHOLARSHIPS

Web-site: Lee Haskins informed us that he should have the web-site ready by October   1st. He has the frame work for it set up now. He requested that information for the   web-site be e-mailed to him at [email protected]. The PTK official web-site can now   be viewed at geocities.com/ptkxixi. It looks wonderful. Great job Lee!!

4. Student Government

Bob Quin filled out all necessary paperwork to register our club with the Student   Government. Lee Haskins will be our connection with the Student Government in   keeping them informed of our activities. Mrs. Schumaker requested that the Student   Government keep us informed when things are required from our club to be in compliance   with school rules. Lee will work on that for us.

5. Community Service Project

School supplies: Lori Tate informed us of the information she found out during her   school supply survey. All Neosho schools seem to be taken care of. It was agreed that   we should continue to help just Goodman, because their need seem to fall in the cracks.   We are still considering placing collection boxes around the school and asking for extra   school items from Crowder students and also tenderly used back-packs.

Trash pick-up: Even though our meeting times have changed Lee Haskins proposed that   we leave our trash pick-up time as originally scheduled on Wednesday, October 9, at 1:30   p.m. Shirley Armstrong seconded the motion and all present were in favor.

6. Fund Raiser

Bake Sale: Bob Quin proposed that we move the dates of the bake sale back by one week   to October 14-16. We realized that the week of the original dates was too crowded for us   and this would give new members a chance to participate. Lee Haskins seconded the   proposal and all were in favor. Lynn Schuster will make monster cookies and Lori Tate   will package them attractively to be used for our cookie gram.

Shirley Armstrong motioned to close the meeting and Bob Quin seconded it.
