Dear Phi Theta Kappa Staff, Advisors, and Members,
As President of PTK, I am honored to be a part of an organization, whose roots date back to 1918.  And in the same moment, I am touched by the historical knowledge that has brought my fellow members and myself to this point and time in our lives.
PTK is a driving force that nurtures of our intellectual hopes and dreams.  The Phi Theta Kappa Oath reads; I do solemnly promise on this day to uphold the standards of Phi Theta Kappa, and to make this object and aim foremost in my mind, and I do solemnly pledge allegiance to my fellow members and promise to aid them in all worthy endeavors.
When the words within the oath are spoken together they become a pledge of honor, a will for acceptance, and a shield of courage that allows one to look down the path of life and accept what they see. Furthermore, the honor of our newly formed intellectual friendships gives us the strength to change those things that may have been extreme barriers when we stood alone.
As members of Phi Theta Kappa, we stand together as one. Our friendships divide our sorrows and double our joys. We are a family.
As the President of the 2002-2003 school year, it is my goal to get to know each and every one of you. And to recognize the talents, gift, and expressions that make you the unique individual that you are.
The theme of our society this semester is "Health." And with that I offer you my friendship, my understanding, and my allegiance. For the continued good health of our organization and that of our Nation, I solemnly pledge to uphold those standards of Phi Theta Kappa that we set back in 1918. And together, all of us can continue to exchange the ideas and ideals of our intellect and continue the academic excellence that has brought us together at Crowder College.
       Kind Regards,
       Lori K. Tate
