Stealth

Learning to move quietly, being neither seen nor heard is often a valuable asset in nerf wars. This stealthy manner allows you to sneak up on your enemy and plays an important role in certain positions. For example, a sniper needs stealth to because his success depends on how quite he is.

Like other skills needed in nerf, stealth comes naturally to certain people. But dont fret because even if you are not naturally stealthy you can still learn some tips from this article.

First let us define stealth. According to Websters dictionary stealth is the slow, deliberate, and secretive action intending to escape observation. So we now know several important parts of being stealthy: slow, deliberate movement; staying unseen and unheard. I would like to add one more very important quality, patience. Patience is what you must have to accomplish slow deliberate movement, which in turn allows you to be neither seen nor heard

Before we can understand how to stay hidden we need to know how the human sense of sight interprets its surroundings. For example quick jerky movements will attract much more attention than slow flowing movement

Not only is the eye sensitive to movement, but it also tries to put patterns into recognizable forms. A good example of this is: there is a man standing in the woods wearing a red shirt. The red shirt is sharply contrasted against the green foliage of the woods and makes the mans outline clearly visible. This same man could be wearing a solid green shirt but it would only make a slight difference. The point is you have to break up your outline to become less visible. Camouflage makes it difficult for the eye to distinguish from the leaves of the woods and the mans shirt. We can now us this information to learn how to stay hidden.

As you may have already figured out I suggest buying some camouflage to wear during nerf wars. If you dont what to spend money on camouflage then were colors that will match you surroundings. Dont forget that camouflage is just as important inside as out. Inside urban camouflage works best, but if you cant find any thing wear a gray or blue shirt. Please note that I said gray not black this is because shadows are gray not black. Even though you have camouflage on you are not invisible be sure any movement you make is slow and deliberate.

You know how to hide but that is only half the battle. In nerf wars you almost always have to move so, knowing how to move correctly is a big help. Any movement you make that could attract attention from the enemy should be slow and deliberate. This means that your movement should flow and not be jerky. Often movement leads to sound

And sound is your worst enemy when trying to be stealthy. In the woods walking is very noisy but it doesnt have to be. If you place the front of your foot down first (very slowly) and allow your heel to follow (very slowly) you will be surprised how quietly you can move. This process takes a lot of time to get from one point to another. Just as camouflage can be worn inside this stepping technique can be used also. Inside it will make annoying floor squeaks less annoying. Another movement technique that is useful when climbing stairs is to stay close to the wall. This will eliminate a lot of squeaking.

Some squeaking is not attributed to where you place your foot. For example nylon paints naturally swoosh when you walk. The only way to eliminate this is to only wear natural material like cotton. Some metal zipper will click as you walk to solve this minor problem just put a little electrical tape on the zipper pull.

None of the above information will be of any use if you do not have patience. That is why stealth is most definitely not easy to master and may take several months of trial and error to perfect, but it can be done. Here are ten tips to help you become stealthier.
