Sniper

The position of sniper seems to attract the most attention from people just starting to play nerf. They enjoy the idea of hiding in a bush decked out in full camouflage, waiting patiently for the enemy to draw near. Then when their target is in range they aim their sniper rifle, pull the trigger sending a dart hurtling towards the unsuspecting victim, who is struck by the dart clueless of it origin. However this is rarely the case.

While the above story is how a true sniper should operate many nerfers think they are snipers when they walk around in the open with a long-range gun. This is nothing near an actual nerf sniper; a nerf sniper is some one who is kills enemy troops stealth fully and quickly. A kid sitting in a tree with only a Lock n Load can be called a sniper because he is stealth full about killing the enemy.

In my opinion there are two types of snipers: passive and aggressive. An aggressive sniper is slightly ironic since he hunts his enemy but does not allow his enemy to know he is there. A passive sniper lies in wait for the enemy to pass by him. Now that we have established what a sniper is I will explain some basic rules a sniper should follow.

The key to being a good sniper is being stealthy (please refer to my stealth article for information on being stealthy). Once you have mastered stealth you are ready to find the gun that is right for you. It will need lots of accuracy, some range and a little penetration. Please note that range is not the most important gun characteristic. Accuracy is the most important because as a sniper shooting more than one shot could give away your position. When your target is on the move he sometimes will drop behind cover; this is when penetration is important. Shooting through soft cover is sometimes necessary for a sniper to do so having penetration is always useful. I would recommend a blow gun for any sniper. The gun fits all three requirements, not to mention it is fast and silent. One gun is often all you need as a sniper but I would suggest carrying a sidearm.

You now have the right gun and know how to be stealthy; all you have left is one more thing. Patience is not a learned skill and if you dont have it to begin with you probably wont be good at it. The ability to move slowly and sit in hiding is what separates good snipers from the average sniper. So if you are read to commit yourself to all these requirements then you are on the path to become a good sniper.

It is very easy to read about being a sniper however in real battles your patience, stealth, and accuracy will be tested. This is why it takes many wars and a lot of practice to fully master the fine art of being a sniper.
