JUNE 25, 1860
Caller Bob, Cody, and Jimmy walked into the saloon. Caller Bob handed a card to Tyson. Mystified he starred at it and then he laughed. "This is a joke." He looked from one to another. "Right?"
Cody was the first to break his smile and respond, "No joke. You sound like Jimmy. At least both of you think alike."
"Now Tyson, its for a good cause. Were trying to raise money for a church." Caller Bob explained.
"Well, heck, Ill give you the money. How much to get me out of this?" Tyson asked as he drew out some money.
"Sorry, you cant pay your own way out. Somebody else has to do it." Caller Bob said as he shook his head at the money Tyson was trying to hand him.
"But what if I flatly refuse to do it?" Tyson sternly said.
"You could but what would the town folks think if you didnt do it. People might laugh and think youre too chicken to ride for the Pony Express." Cody watched Tyson intently to see if his words were having any effect on him.
"How long is this for?" Tyson didnt want anybody thinking him a chicken.
"Just a few days, Im sure. Until someone pays to have you change back." Caller Bob replied.
"Alright! Let me gather some things." He stopped and turned around. "Come on Jimmy, Ill show you were youll be bunkin." Jimmy reluctantly followed him upstairs.
Cody grinned at the thought of Jimmy running a saloon as he followed Caller Bob out the door.
