My Review of the Evening
Amy opened with Children of the World ...just her & her guitar. She commented that she had just know finished all the food on her plate & might regret it. (The banquest was very nice...were served beef, chicken, green beans wrapped in a bow, twice baked potato, along with salad, bread, & chocolate cake & cheesecake drizzled in raspberry sauce for dessert.)
Several other people spoke-the director of Youth For Christ whom said that last year the Michael W. Smith did the banquet & that he asked him last year to please have Amy do it this year. Three people whom lives have been changed by Youth For Christ spoke. All 3 equally as moving stories of having hardships & overcoming them, having their lives changed by Youth For Christ.
Amy talked about how we all have story of good times & bad times & that everyone of us wants to believe that we matter. She said only God can satisfy that longing. She talked in length about her former mother-in-law, Mary Chapman whom grew up living a carnival life. She told about her life growing up. She commented that none of her kids were interested in her life& that her "I Do" Daughter (Jenny) was more interested in her stories. Amy said that Mary started school later than most & spoke of her being invited to someone's house to help clean when she was in 4th grade but that Mary said that it was really for her to hear about Jesus. She said that Mary Chapman was always talking about Jesus to people & would ask people if they knew Jesus. She talked of her & Mary talking about her divorce & that Mary said "divorce isn't always the answer but sometimes it sure helps" to which the audience laughed.
Amy sang "What the Angels See", "Takes A Little Time" dedicating it to the 3 people whom had spoke about their stories. She then talked about her walking the aisle to dedicate her life to God in 1973 & commented that little did she know that her best sinning was ahead of her. Amy sang "Out In The Open" then sang "Be Still & Know" which she said the she wrote a few months ago for her youth group. She wanted everyone in the audience to sing along to the chorus but said that if some singer made that request of her, she wouldn't do it & she'd say "Shut Up" especially in a big crowd like this because we were all in a circle & everyone would know who could sing & who counldn't. She talked about how tv these days with the running text & everything just overwhelms her & how her kids are really into technology. She finds it hard to believe that people can get to know each other via the internet by sitting & typing back & forth & feel like they know someone (I immediately thought of FOA message boards ). Amy said she was the last of the dinosaurs.
They had some more presentations for Youth for Christ. Then Amy came back on stage. She said she had just wrote a song based on the comment of her father-in-law. He was in the hospital due to illness & they asked how he was doing & he said "What's the Worst Thing They Can Do, Threaten Me With Heaven?" She then sang the song. She asked the audience for requests as long as it could be played on guitar. Amy played "El Shaddai" The director asked the audience if they'd like to hear another song & she sang "Thy Word" And that was the end of the show.
