My Review of the Evening
Awesome show! Great to see Joe, Kim, Laura, Dasha, Barb, & Jeff! We ate dinner at Anita's in Vienna, VA. I almost did not get to go as there was an accident on I-95 & I got stuck in traffic on my way to Dasha's house before joining up with her to attend the dinner & show. The food was amazing & was great to see everyone. Laura rode from dinner to Wolftrap with us. She had bought Joe's extra ticket so we ended up all sitting together (except for Jeff whom was close by & Kim who had a front row seat.)
Vince played his segment first. I had not heard him live so that was a great experience. Man, can he play guitar or what??? He did great upbeat versions of One More Last Chance & Dont Let Our Love Start Slippin Away.
She opened with Baby Baby which sounded awesome with Vinces band. It was neat to hear Vince's Horn section add a great dimension to the song. She then sang Takes a Little Time.
Before beginning her next song, she said she wrote this new song for Vince & had recently started playing it. Amy sang True Love" which had been added to the permanent set list by this tour date & Amy said they had a chance to work it up at sound check with the band.
Next Amy commented about how when you go to the Lord in prayer and youre just on your knees asking for help, and you wish you could hear an audible response directly from God. I wrote this song about what I think God would say in response to our prayers, and she sang Carry You.
Amy commented that it was really fun to be playing with these great musicians and joked, it adds a bit of excitement to life on the road when youre sleeping with the other act. I am pretty sure she was talking about Vince & not Del McCoury. LOL
Amy then shared the story of her first time hearing Vince sing live. He had invited her to perform on a Christmas special and she was blown away by how high he could sing. She said that for a man to sing that high and with such confidence she thought to herself, now theres a man whos really secure in his masculinity. So she found herself in the studio a few weeks later with Keith Thomas (producer) who was really pushing her to sing high harmony on a song for her new album. She just couldnt get there with her voice and finally said in frustration, lets just get Vince Gill to come sing this part. They called him up and few days later he was in the studio recording House of Love with her. Gene Miller does a great job filling in on this tune when Amys on tour, but I must admit, Vince has a unique voice that really gives this song a great sound.
After this Amy said that Vince wanted to punch up this next song with a little groove from the band and she did a great island/reggae-version of Lucky One the same arrangement that she recently performed on The Today Show.
Then she joined him in a song and they performed a great version of Faint of Heart. They finished the song with a kiss and Amys segment of the show was over. She left the stage to the enthusiastic applause of our FOA rows in the center back of Wolftrap. We made sure to stand up & yell & clap.
Del McCoury Band was not my cup of tea but I gave them a try. Joe left during their segment & the more I listened, the more I think I should have stretched my legs also.
Amy did come out at the end to sing/play with everyone for the closing & sang "Every Heartbeat". We moved a little closer during this part of the show as some people had left.
