My Review
Great show with a great children's orchestra from New York City. We were only 30 minutes from NYC. I sat in the center in row K which was not that far back. She dedicated "Takes a Little Time" to anyone having a bad day then explained that Saved by Love was from parts of her life and that she changed the name of the Laura character which she based on her sister. Symphony parts were beautiful, nicely went with Amy's songs inbetween them. She encouraged people to dance in the aisles if they wanted before "Love Me Tender". She thanked people for showing up after doing "House of Love" with Gene Miller then people started screaming out requests. She honored one request singing "Breath of Heaven". I wanted to request "Believe" from Three Wishes but was too chicken to yell it out. Then she wanted to sing an old song, "Big Yellow Taxi". She talked about Vince being at the theater last week & promoting her show coming up this week & a man buying a ticket, asking if he was here. Amy talks about Kim Keyes & how she is the funniest person on the tour and has her do her Cher singin Patsy Cline "Crazy" song. Then, goes on to talk about a dear friend that she was walking with and talking and that the conversation turned to something unexpected. During a beautiful sunset, her friend revealed that she was sexually abused as a child to which Amy was stunned and focused on the woman's deep faith in God which lead her to write "Ask Me" which she sang next. She went right into "After The Fire", one of my favorites, then the Jesus Loves Me Medley. During the intermission, I caught up with Dasha and met other FOA people. It was nice to meet so many people. Then, Amy opened with "Things We Do For Love". She says she wrote "Baby, Baby" when her daughter was six weeks old but now she is sixteen. How time flies... She sings "Every Heartbeat" then "The Power" which sounded weird with the symphony. She then had the audience close their eyes and reflect on faces/times they hadn't seen in years...saying the greatest gift to give is time. Then she went into "If These Old Walls Could Speak", it was very moving. I loved the way she did this. The symphony was beautiful on their performances except on the power. Her "Innocence Lost" and "El Shaddai" were very moving and showcased her powerful vocals. "Highland Cathedral" was awesome with the bagpipes, defiantly the best instrumental of the night! She said about what a great night she had and did "Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee" which went great with the symphony instruments. She then left the stage and came back for one more song "I Will Remember You".
After the show, I waited with many other FOA members and showed them my Amy Grant scrapbook that I had brought for Amy to sign. We had a great time waited in line for the meet and greet after the show which was in the audience area. I was near the back of the line which I like because it allows me to talk to people more and see Amy more as well. When it got time to go meet Amy, I let Dasha go first because I was kinda nervous even though I have met her many times. Sure enough, when she sees me, she gets a happy look in her eyes of remembrance then hugs me which should calm my nerves but then as we are hugging, she says "How are you doing, Terry?" (UGH, Huh???, What did she say? I am thinking) then when she pulls back she apologizes and said she knew when she was pulling back that my name was Jill and she felt bad, said she is still working on remembering and referred to me as the Jill rhyme from WV and the Brown-eyed girl reference. I told her it was ok (just glad she remembers my face). After that, I asked about the Wallet song and if she knew if it might be put out soon to which she said "No". (Bummer) Then asked if she knew about a book that a friend of mine gave Vince but she did not seem to know about it. She signed my scrapbook cover and a picture of us together from our last meeting in Williamsport, PA August 2004. I told her I was glad to hear Breath of Heaven tonight as it brought back memories of the last time I heard it which was when a friend called me from her Christmas concert 12/17/04 and let me hear Breath of Heaven then I delievered my baby the next day. I told her that alot of people I knew loved her Three Wishes show and hoped that it went on to do more shows, wishing her luck. She told me as to go home and enjoy that baby as I walked away. I am lucky and thankful to have met Amy again. She is such a wonderful person.
