My Review of the Evening
I drove up the Newark, OH by myself to meet Dasha. I got to the hotel, The Place Off the Square which is owned by Longaberger at around 3PM in the afternoon. I called Dasha to find that her plane from Chicago to Newark had been cancelled & that she was driving in a rental car down to Newark for the show & might be late due to she was stuck in traffic because of a big wreck. I checked into the hotel & then changed clothes & went back to my car to get some things. I was finishing my card that I wrote for Amy in my car when I looked up at the tour bus that I parked infront of to see Amy going to it to put some things in the bottom of the bus. I was shocked by this site & just stayed in my car watching as her driver came over to be with her & escort her to the SUV that she was drove over to the concert hall shortly after that.
After seeing Amy that close, I called Dasha to share the news & find out how close she was only to find the poor woman was behind a big wreck on the freeway to get here.
I went to the venue for the soundcheck. After getting my FOA badge, I talked to some FOA people. I met a woman named Polly & talked to her for away. I found out she had an extra ticket beside her & told her if she could not find anyone to use it, that I'd love to have it. She was very nice & gave it to me so we got to chat some more. I found Kim & told her about Dasha's troubles. KiwiJules was with Kim so I got to meet her & talk for a bit. It was very interesting to meet her. She travelled all the way from New Zealand to be there for all the Ohio concerts.
We were let into the soundcheck. Amy worked on a few songs but spent almost an hour working on one song. She worked on the Water, Come Be with Me, & more. Amy forgot the words to one of the songs & one of the FOA people in the audience gave them her Behind the Eyes cd insert with the words (It was for Missing You) to help her. During the soundcheck, one FOA member slipped in the audience & several FOA people went over to help her. Amy commented from the stage to see if the FOA person was ok. The soundcheck was great. Amy talked to some of us. She found out one person, Collman came from England to the show & told him about doing a carriage ride in New York when he asked what he should do there which is were he was heading next. Some FOA members yelled out songs for her to do & she tried a few. After the soundcheck, Amy came to the edge of the stage & started signing autographes & taking pictures with everyone so I hoped in line. I did not get to talk to Amy as the line was moving quickly due to the band's need to eat. I debated about getting back in line to have something signed for Dasha since she had not shown up yet so I hung around up front to get back in line with a photo. There were only a few people left in line when I looked back & saw Dasha coming down the aisle. I motioned for her to get down there quickly. She was able to talk to Amy briefly & told of her renting the car to get there. She asked for Gene to do Oh, Susannah & gave Amy a book about women singers of the 70's that Amy seemed very excited to get. Amy had commented to Dasha that she was thinking about her that day. After that, I left with Dasha & Christine to go to our room as I needed to recharge my camera battery. We went out to dinner at Burger King with a guy named John from Ohio. I had to run back to the hotel room to get my camera & got Dasha's signs. John came to the hotel to escort me back to the venue. When we entered, a person whom worked there said upon seeing the signs "You are not holding them up during the performance, I hope" to which I said they are not mine but I will tell the person they belong to not to hold them up. I ended up giving John my ticket that I was not using since Polly gave me hers when I found out he was going to sit in the balcony.
I Will Be Your Friend - started out as Amy by herself then band came out on stage - Amy said that that was to make the audience appreciate the band members that she surrounded herself with because an evening by herself would be bland/boring (can't remember the exact words)
Take A Little Time
Saved By Love -Amy talked about the birth of Matt & her sister's Carol's daughter, Claire a little bit
Missing You -Amy talked about her oldest nephew whom went 2 1/2 hrs away to college & that now he is back in Nashville & won't leave them alone
Lead Me On -Amy talked about the 20th year anniversary
Baby Baby - Amy talked about her kids called her for mother's old except her 18 yr old daughter whom text messaged her - a sign of the times & that her 18 yr old daughter, Millie whom this song was for is starting college in the fall & that the royalties from this song would help pay for a fraction of the college costs
Shovel In Hand- Amy talked how she wrote this song last year for her son Matt whom lost a friend at age 19 yrs - very moving song.
Come Be With Me - Will's suggestion to do this in soundcheck
O Susannah by Gene Miller for Dasha - Amy commented about Dasha's ordeal to get there then said that Dasha did not request an Amy song but Gene's audience laughed but some of the attendees may have only new this song as some seems like season ticket holders & not Amy fans.
House of Love done with Gene Miller
Lucky One
Angels
What the Angels See - Amy commented that she was starting to become more like Vince as this was a more country song than her first Angels song - a comment something like you become more like whom you live with type of thing.
Big Yellow Taxi - Amy commented about the book Dasha gave her about Joni Mitchell & Carole King & how she was excited to read it & other stuff Dasha mentioned.
Good For Me-Kim suggested she bring out the 5 LB hula hoop from soundcheck & dared her to hula hoop for the entire song & bet $$ but ever like Amy, she said they'd give the $$ to Dasha to help pay for the rental car & gas.
Father's Eyes-Amy mentioned that a great influence in Gary Chapman's life, Dottie Rambo had passed away today & she said if not for Dottie that Gary might not have been encouraged to pursue his career.
El Shaddai
Be Thou My Vision
Out In the Open
Every Road segwayed into Thy Word
Jesus Loves Me/They Will Know We are Christians/Helping Hand
Encore:
I Will Remember You - Amy did not even fully leave the stage - she just walked off & came right back out for the song.
I sat next to Polly during the show in the 5th row center. It was great getting to meet her.
After the show, I went up by the stage to wait for Dasha whom was talking to Gene Miller. After talking to Gene, she gave something to Will whom asked why she was not backstage to which Dasha said she was not invited so Will said he'd take her back. She got her stuff & asked Will if she could take her roomates back & Collman & John whom were there also & Will said sure. I am glad I roomed with Dasha, she is the master.
While we were back stage, Amy was talking to a family that was last in line & I recogized the young girl as the girl from Three Wishes that wanted the Library built for her town in OH, her whole family was there & I heard Amy comment how she was glad she got to see them again. I had saw the girl at the stage area after the show but did not recognize her until we were backstage.
They were the last family that Amy talked to before us. Christine was incredible on the 5lb hula hoop while Dasha was talking to Amy, wish I could have tried but I can't even do a regular hula hoop. Amy then talked to Dasha & commented on how great Christine was doing on the hula hoop. Joe called Dasha while she was talking to Amy so Dasha gave Amy the phone to talk to him & they chatted for a few minutes. I asked if we could get a group shot before Amy left so all 5 of us posed with Amy. I had Amy sign my Mosaic book & asked about the cruise because I originally was going to go but because of things popping up, I could not. Amy said that she was only going to be on the cruise until the first stop due to a prior commitment for a vacation in Texas as her nanny, Phyllis's town was having a 100 year celebration that week & she had committed to attend that. So that made me feel not as bad for missing the cruise.
