Cracker Barrel for the Rest Stops Hymns for the Journey By Christine Blundred

A friend of mine recently received a guitar signed by Amy Grant that reads, Music is good for the soul. Indeed, studies have repeatedly shown the many benefits that music can have, and so it is no surprise that music is an essential element of the atmosphere for which Cracker Barrel is known. Since its establishment in 1969, Cracker Barrel has been a place of rest for weary travelers, and with the exclusive release of Hymns for the Journey from Amy Grant, patrons can now take this sense of respite with them wherever the road may lead.

For Amy Grant, that road has been long and often winding, but the messages of hope and love from the hymns that she sang as a child have stayed with her throughout the years. The beautiful simplicity of these lyrics that have stood the test of time are what have shaped my understanding of God. Amy equates it with knowing the back of your hand, or how to make your grandmothers banana bread recipe with your eyes closed. According to Cy Taylor, Cracker Barrels President and Chief Operating Officer, it is this strong country heritage that fits so well with who Cracker Barrel is and why he says, We are awfully proud to partner with Amy, and proud as we can be to have this CD on our shelves. Although Amy has previously released two hymns albums, she is equally honored to partner with Cracker Barrel Old Country Store on this compilation.

Even if you already own Legacy and/or Rock of Ages, it is worth adding Hymns for the Journey to your collection as it contains ten of Amys personal favorite inspirational songs from the other two albums. Tracks include contemporary takes on traditional hymns like My Jesus I Love Thee, Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, and Rock of Ages a duet with husband and country artist Vince Gill, Amys version of I Can Only Imagine, which was made widely popular by Christian group Mercy Me, and Carry You, a poignant song written for her niece.

The album was released Tuesday, May 9, 2006, and can be found at any of Cracker Barrels 539 locations, or ordered online from www.crackerbarrel.com. To celebrate the release, Cracker Barrel and MAC Presents held a party at City Hall, one of Nashvilles premiere entertainment venues. Amy thanked everyone for coming and gave away a famous Cracker Barrel rocker, explaining the three components to selecting the perfect one width, slant, and arm flatness (to set your iced tea on, of course). She went on to say that we are overly connected and overly busy, encouraging us to sit and enjoy life, preferably outside, a powerful reminder from one whos career spans nearly 30 years and includes 20 albums, numerous awards, television specials and her own primetime show, not to mention a husband and five children. So, take the time to wear out a few of your own rockers, and when life insists that you get up and go, just make sure that you have Hymns for your Journey.
