I was running late getting to the venue as I got directions from my father-in-law (a big mistake). I parked at 4:30 pm the exact time the soundcheck was supposed to start so I got my stuff and hopped out of the car and entered a side door that was open and ran/walked quickly to the seating entrance. When a guard saw me, I flashed my FOA badge and went into the soundcheck. Once inside, I sat by Eric and his family in the second row center and found out that I should have checked in at the box office for my soundcheck pass...oops. Amy came out and was checking out the stage and setup. Then while the band was getting the sounds under control, Amy came down and mingled with the FOA group. I think there were about 20 of us. She took photos with us and signed a few items. Since we didn't expect this opportunity, it was quite a surprise. I waited til most everyone had seen Amy before I went up. By that time, her tour manager was trying to move people along quickly so I did not have much time but I did tell Amy I was going to the Texas and Indiana shows. I asked if she had copies of all Three Wishes episodes because I had made copies for her on DVD. She said that was sweet and I said that it was a great show that made a huge impact and I thought she should have copies of all the episodes. She said she had copies of all but the last 2 shows due to being out those nights so I gave her the DVDs. Then We got our picture taken and she had to go back up to the soundcheck. At the soundcheck, they worked on Simple Things, Good For Me, and Alright. Then in true Amy fashion, she came back down to see the people whom she had not seen before the start of soundcheck to make sure everyone got to see her then I heard her tour manager say that she had to go eat dinner. Amy opened with "Stay for Awhile" then "Takes A Little Time". She commented before the next song about being with someone you love and that if you were not, she hoped it was someone you liked then she did "Lucky One". She asked if everyone was doing alright then talked about being chatty at her Canada show last night and that someone told her to stop talking and sing. She then told an incredible story of her sister, Carol whom in 2 years older than her, and her having their babies within 24 hours of each other at the same hospital. Amy had Matt then Carol had Claire and that everyone came to see Amy when Matt was born bringing flowers and candy then her room became a waiting room where everyone ate her chocolates. After everyone left, Carol and Amy sat their babies on the bed together and took their picture while Carol and Amy sat on ice. It was such a cute story. Then told of how it was hard to write with an infant/children, that is why so long between albums...and how she'd drive around town to drown out the screams of her infant and try to come up with lyrics. That man in Canada doesn't know what he's talking about! I love when Amy talks...she tells the best stories. Then she played "Saved By Love" that she said was wrote for her sister but she changed the name to Laura and doesn't know why. Then Amy talked about forgiveness being very powerful and a saying that her former Mother-in-law told her about there is the best of us in the worst of us and the worst of us in the best of us and that never behooves the rest of us (I think...I may have messed it up but essentially that everyone has bad and good in them). Then she played "Out In the Open". Then Amy had us "talk amongst ourselves" as she tuned her guitar as she said she can't talk and tune at the same time. Then she talked about working out at the Summit not about trying to get in a bathing suit but more for stamina for keeping up with her kids and that a worker there requested "Oh How The Years Go By" then she played that. Asked if anyone was not from Altoona and we yelled then Amy asked if anyone from MD and then asked if Brandon's family was there (I sat by them-Debbie from FOA's family and they yelled back). Amy talked about her influences like Carol King and James Taylor then played "Big Yellow Taxi". Then she talked about not dancing anymore to pop songs but we could if we wanted to do so and she did "Good For Me" then "House Of Love" with Gene Miller whom she said could hit those high notes like Vince and that it took an awfully special man to do so. Then she talked about her daughter, Millie whom she wrote "Baby Baby" for 16 years ago. She describes Millie as an old soul and said that no child has every longed for freedom more than her. Amy did "Baby Baby" then "Ask Me" which went right into "After the Fire". She did "Alright" then "Thy Word" which Amy opened by saying "Erin...here is your song"(that was EricPSU, FOA member's daughter). The song got a rousing cheer after the opening verse and people were shining pocket flashlights that were handed out. Amy commented that it "looks so beautiful out there". She did "Come Be With Me" then "Simple Things". She sang "The Things We Do For Love" which she noted that the movie was quickly through the theaters. She talked about the theme song for her NBC show and that the show probably changed her life more than anyone else and how when hope is present, anything can happen then sang "Believe". Amy did "Every Heartbeat" then commented that tonight was for the Arrow Project with all proceeds going to charity and talked of her family having a foster brother for awhile. Closed with "I Will Remember You" then left the stage til she came back for the encore.
Before her last song, Amy talked about the greatest gift to give is time and for us to close our eyes and remember. She said the last thing Jesus said on the cross was "Remember" then she sang "If These Walls Could Speak" with Jonathan Hemby doing piano. Great way to end an awesome evening. So haunting and emotionally stirring with Amy's voice...Awesome!
