The History of the Silver Fangs

Alright kiddies! Gather 'round, it's story time!

A great many moons ago, long before the days of man, animals ruled the earth. In this time, a Great Darkness rose above the land, and began to smoother all life. The animals called out to the Great Mother Gaia for aid, but she was not to be found. The Darkness had taken her to the centre of the earth, the pit of all Darkness.

Gaia lamented, crying out in desperation to all her animals "Who will be my savior? Who among you shall stand as hero before this onslaught?"

All animals rose up to the call, ready for battle. But when Wolf arose, he was scoffed at, and taunted. "Does this mottled mongrel think he is equal to us, the greatest tribe of beasts ever to emerge from Gaia's womb?" Wolf wasn't allowed to join on the quest.

The animals travelled to the earth's navel, and confronted this Great Darkness. But the Darkness was too strong; it engulfed and smothered the animals, and at the moment before death, the animals were sent back to the surface, released from death, gasping for breath. All had risen, and all had fallen: Lion, Gyphon, Stag, Chimera and even Unicorn.

Wolf stood up again, and said he would fight this Great Darkness. Again all the animals laughed and taunted. But Falcon stood among them: "Now that we have failed, even the lowest of the low may try". And so Wolf travelled to the Navel of the World. He saw the Great Darkness, but he did not attack right away. Instead he kept to the shadows, and silently watched. He saw that Darkness was forcing Gaia to sing, and as she sang, the tiny soft beating heart of Darkness began to swell with a terrible life.

Wolf crept over to Darkness, and lunged. His razor sharp fangs sank into the foul heart of Darkness and he locked his jaws. Darkness howled in rage and pain, he battered upon Wolf until the life was out of him, but Wolf only bit harder. He felt the heart begin to break, and he tightened his jaws more, knowing that all 3 of them may die to ensure that Darkness never conquered. In desperation, Darkness released Gaia to the earth, hoping that Wolf would then release him. But Wolf did not. He only bit harder. Death lingered around Wolf, and then touched him. And Wolf could bite no more.

Life returned to the earth above, and all the animals rejoiced. "The Wolf has released Gaia! Praise to the wolf!" But Wolf was nowhere to be found, and the animals remorsed. Gaia assembled her animals and said: "My mightiest of animals have fallen before the foe, and only my Wolf could save me. Henceforth all animals shall honor the Wolf and revere him and serve him as Totem Spirits. And the Falcon shall serve the hightest of wolves, for ony Falcon believed in Wolf."

And with that, Gaia raised her arms, and took the body of Wolf into her. "Wolf has died that Life may live. Henceforth Wolf shall know the secret of Gaia and the secret of Death." And Wolf was restored! Only his coat was of the purest white, because he has passed through Death's Domain. Gaia continued: "When I create Humans, Wolf will be the intermediary. He shall walk the realms between animal and human, and make his home in both lands. And from Human and Wolf shall I fashion a protector, a great spirit hunter, filled with courage and wisdom."

By Gaia's decree, Wolf became the Mother's protector in all ways and all things and all times. Many lineages came from Wolf, but to this day, the White Wolf remains first before all.
