This page is dedicated to the Mazda RX-7.
The first RX-7 rolled off the lines in 1978, and it is now in its third generation (pictured above). It is the only car still in production that uses a rotary engine. The latest revision uses a two-rotor power plant with twin, sequential turbochargers producing 255 horsepower. (The latest Japanese version has 280 hp) Countless after market suppliers have realized the possibilities with this powerful car, and it seems to be steadily growing in popularity.
Sadly, shipment to the United States stopped
with the 1995 model year, partly due to lack of sales. When the
third generation was introduced in 1993, it received Motor Trend's Import
Car of the Year award, and sales were strong at first. But the demand
tapered off in the following two years. There are many theories as
to why this happened, but needless to say there are thousands of rotary
enthusiasts who were very disappointed with the decision to discontinue
shipment to our shores.
Now is the time to do something about
it.
Mazda needs to understand that there is
a market for this unique car. With cars like the Toyota Supra Turbo,
Mitsubishi 3000GT, and the Nissan 300ZX disappearing from the market place,
the doors are wide open for the reintroduction of a high-performance rotary
car. But what is the best method for accomplishing this task?
The best way is to write a letter to the
address shown below. If you are a potential buyer, it is particularly
important for you to do this. No one will be convinced that you are
willing and able to purchase a new RX-7 if you cannot even spare the expense
of an envelope and stamp.
Start here, at the Save The Seven
web site. Contribute your feelings on the car or the rotary engine,
or enter in a good story that captures the purpose of our cause.
If the interest is sufficient, the letters can be sent en masse
to Mazda USA.
