Well the boats back up on dry land
again, sitting on her trailer next to the house.
It was a very good year, Kevin
and Flo both love the boat so that's a relief.
My dad and I brought the boat down
from Toronto to Trenton in 2 days, a very
good run for a 22 foot boat.
We averaged over 7 kts the first day, a screaming broad
reach with an offshore wind and
small waves. The second day there was no wind so
we used the "Iron Sail" all day.
I started racing JOG class in June
and my crew Fred and I placed 4th in the "Diehard Series"
and 3rd in the "Harvest Series".
The boat really flies in strong
winds, in one race it was blowing 15-20 kts, we hit
8.5kts on a run and touched 8kts
on the last beat to the finish. I was able to carry full sail
in those conditions, just having
to spill the Main in the strong gusts.
Among the improvements for next
year are a Spinnaker, new winches, new running rigging
the installation of a hatch on
the cabin top, foreward of the mast.
