While Marine Atlantic would eventually wind down and close its
island ferry service, NFL took a bold step forward with the introduction of the new
MV
Confederation. Ill have to do a little research on this vessel, right now I know
very little about it. I think it replaced both the old Confederation and the aging
Lord
Selkirk. I do remember that because she is of significantly larger dimensions than the
rest of the fleet there was some concerns and teething problem with her as well, not
unlike the new Abegweit.

Epilogue
As we enter the year 2001, the Prince Nova and the Prince Edward are now
gone and the new Confederation and the Holiday Island are left as the last
of the PEI ferry service. NFL (and Bay Ferries) is a progressive company with a vision for
ferries into the future, and judging by the success of The Cat, a sleek high speed
catamaran ferry used from Yarmouth to Bar Harbor, the service is in good hands. The bridge
may be the ultimate in convenience, but I think Ill continue to take the boat. A PEI
vacation wouldnt be complete without it.
We will be arriving at Caribou Nova Scotia
shortly. Please return to your vehicle. Thank you for sailing with us and have a pleasant
day.
