OUR 1969 HURST OLDS PAGE!
By 1968, musclecar mania was getting more and more wild. Every automaker
with an entrant in the category scrambled to outdo one other. In this rubber-burning
atmosphere, Oldsmobile struck a deal with Hurst Performance to build a
limited edition, special version of the 442 packing not the stock 400 cubic
inch V8 but the 455 from the Ninety Eight sedan. Special silver paint with
black stripes and emblems galore completed the package
For '69, the 455's rating was upped to 380 horsepower with ram air and
the Hurst Olds became totally outrageous. Mods included unique Firefrost
gold striping, special rear decklid spoiler, the largest air scoop ever
seen to that date on an American car, the "Force Air Induction", a Hurst
Dual/Gate shifter and console, performance-modified Turbo Hydra-Matic 400
and H/O emblems.
Nicknamed the Hairy Olds, this example is just one of 912 built in 1969,
including two special order convertibles--one for Linda Vaughn, the original
Miss Hurst Golden Shifter, and one for George Hurst, for his personal use.
Ok, Ok, we
admit it these are not pictures of OUR Hurst Olds but hopefully this is
what it will look like when our full frame off restoration is completed
in the near future! We will be posting some up to date photos of
our restoration in progress and of course actual photos of our car when
this project is completed!
