~ Night Ride to Oblivion ~

Saturday 3rd January 1998 .

This would have to go down in the annals of history as the shortest run ever. From home, a round trip of approximately 60 Kms taking 5 Hours. Me thinks I need to find second gear, please no comments about brands of motorcycle .

Being so close to New Years, I dont think anyone with any brain cells remaining expected a huge turnout . Good thing that. Ross and Martin made an appearance but were non-starters. Ross needed to catch up on some beauty sleep, Martin needed to take a contract out on his Bank Manager. As an aside, I find the workings of the financial sector about as logical as my ex-wife, she did after all marry me. But I digress, as normal .

The list of usual suspects, apart from myself, included Dom, Peter, and Andrew King (without a tinted visor). I say apart from myself because I am far from usual. The decision was made to take a leisurely stroll to Glenelg. Not the most imaginative destination I grant you, but the scenery is another story. The irony was Ross wasnt taking part in the run but he still managed to do a fair share of it. Almost the same distance as Andrew, who promptly disappeared upon our arrival at Magic Mountain .

The next comment from Dom caught me somewhat off guard, seemed like a good idea at the time though. It ran something like, "Ive got some mates playing in a band at a pub tonight. Whats say we pay them a visit ." The word pub was enough to attract my attention and gain my support. Peter was about 1 millisecond behind.

Jetty Road Glenelg on a Saturday night really is a spiritual experience. Only my Dry cleaner really knows how enlightened I became. I really got to get out more often .To cut a long story short, we found the pub, saw the band, found another pub then went home. All in all quite an enjoyable night. Next time might leave the bike ome and drink real beer.
