 | ~ Jargon ~ |

or- how many really big, important sounding words can I use in one article ?
| | JARGON - Noun, Specialised language concerned with particular subject; pretentious or nonsensical language. That's what the Collins Gem Australian English Dictionary says anyway. What a lot of pigs trotters, how could somebody possibly call what we speak English? In case you hadn't noticed this is Australia and as such we speak Australian, bloody oath. |
| | That has nothing to do with the subject however, which is of course Jargon and the use thereof. As motorcyclists we have our own very specialised vernacular which to the casual untrained observer probably sounds somewhat disconcerted. The casual untrained observers however are usually a bunch of wankers with small sports cars and big ego's so they can all just naff off. |
| | Let's face it , "going around a corner and falling off " just doesn't sound good, at least if you "highsided after giving it the berries" you would have something to brag about at the local cafe. The use of metaphors has become somewhat of a rider tradition since the first biker ever "swung his leg over". Although some of the palaver amongst riders is often superfluous it has gained some modicum of acceptance just by making the conversations interesting. |
| | Have I lost anyone so far ? I sincerely hope not because the basic comprehension of Jargon and its accompanying trappings as it pertains to the average motorcycle enthusiast is of great consequence and is itself nearly as important as knowing how to ride in the first place. After all its not going to be any fun riding with someone else if you don't know what their talking about half the time. |
| | So next time you place your buttocks on the seat, carefully enter the flow of traffic and go for a leisurely ride just think, wouldn't it be more fun if you could swing your leg over, give it a fist full and cane it up the Gorge? |
