'98 SAHRA Soap Box Derby

Following last year's popular inaugural SAHRA Soap Box Derby, the second annual bash was again held at Heiner Gossert's property at Wistow, in the Adelaide hills. Cool weather was kept at bay by a huge bonfire andd hot drinks and BBQ in the marquee.

The "track" runs down a hill in the sheep paddock, complete with a couple of bends to keep things interesting, with plenty of thrills and spills to keep drivers and spectators entertained.

Gordon Cowley's 'hot rod' tractor ran non-stop towing these foolhardy kamikaze pilots to the top of the hill. An attempt was made for elimination run offs after lunch, but no-one was taking it seriously, so that was abandoned. Some took advantage of a lack of rules, with a three wheeler, and even a two wheeler (soapbox?).

It was a good fun, social day, and we will all be back next year. Isn't that what it's all about?
