1998 Qld State Title Show

Brisbane, Queensland

Well, what can we say? The Brisbane Hot Rod Show just keeps on getting bigger and better. This year the number of entries was a record of 336, with 100 hot rods, 107 street machines, 35 bikes, 44 traders & 50 competition, custom and exhibition class vehicles on display, in an expanded floor area which encompassed two pavilions this year. Crowd attendance's were also up there with the record years, with over 28,000 coming in to see the show.

The entertainment provided included a Harley Davidson fashion parade & radio controlled circuit racing cars. Both of these attractions are real crowd pleasers, which also draw large numbers of spectators during the show (especially when the Harley girls strut their stuff, and the circuit cars fire up). Other attractions put on for everyone's entertainment were 'Milt's Magic Moments', with Milton Adey giving a commentary on an array of milestone performance engines which are a part of hot rodding history, and of course, various seminars held for rodders & street machiners which covered aspects such as vehicle mods, nitrous oxide use, building street rods and modifying street cars.

There were a number of new cars debuted at this year's show, but most notable was Alan & Suzie Porter's '32 roadster. The Porter's picked up 5 trophies with their stunning street rod, which is a mixture of new and old styles, with flathead power, and many hi-tech fabricated components throughout. Graeme Urquhart's '35 Ford sedan continued its domination of east coast shows, with another 4 trophies going home to the Gold Coast. Rod Hadfield brought his 1919 twin blown T coupe up from Victoria, and stunned the crowd with the T's awesome presence. Thanks to the team work of the QHRP clubs, entrants and all those involved in staging the 1998 show, it was a credit to all concerned, especially the clubs such as Fine Iron Hot Rod Club which won a well deserved '1st Club Display' with their 1950's petrol station club stand.
