The Powerhouse Run

The 16th Annual Easy Street Rod & Custom Club "Powerhouse Run" was held on 1st March '98 at Lake Munmorah Power Station on the central coast of NSW, with over 85 hot rods at the run, including may new ones. Craig Fountain's amazing '50 Buick custom, Les Thomas' '33 "phantom" Ford roadster, and Len Gilling's tricky '32 Ford Vicky were among the crowd pleasers.

Also on the day there was "Drag Racing with a difference". A scaled down drag strip, included working Xmas tree and scaled down hot rods which each competitor ran with down the strip to the finish. It was "Heads Up", and traction compound (sandshoes) were optional. The deserving winner of "Top Eliminator-Male" was Mario Azzopardi, who after a deep stage got the hole shoot and ran straight down the track, but suffered a "dicky knee" and barrel rolled in the deep end, yet had enough momentum to see him first through the traps upside down. The "Powder Puff" was run, and won by Julie Ann of Maitland Rodders. Also on the day was the "Radiator fill" competition which went to Old Time Hotrod Club. Entrants on the day received goodies bags and the monster raffle went off well (many thanks to all the sponsors).

Peer voting was conducted to establish the "Top Five" of the 16th Annual Powerhouse Run, and was a clean sweep for the Henry fans. (In no particular order), Les Thomas 1933 roadster, Stuart Lemme 1939 sedan, Bob Bassett 1932 pick-up, Gary Hudson 1935 tudor, Mark Norton 1934 roadster.

The Committee and members of Easy Street Rod & Custom Club thank all the rodders and families who attended the run, and our sponsors too, for making the day successful.

Michael Morris' flamed '32 coupe

Mark Brownrigg (Howlers HRC) roadster. Nostalgia all over.

Len Gillings glass bodied '32 Vicky won "Top 5".

"Top 5" '33 roadster belongs to Les Thomas (aka Phantom). Check out those meat hooks up front.

Craig Fountain's amazing Straight 8 Buick just keeps on dropping jaws wherever it goes. Unfortunately Craig was late and missed "Top 5" judging.

Staged, ready to run. Green light, heads up. Winner went to the next round.
