Recently it became obvious the jealousy in Winston Cup racing. Jack Roush, the owner of 5 ford teams accused Jeff Gordon and Crew Chief Ray Evernham of tampering with tires. It so happens that after the accusations were made, tires were confiscated from Gordon and Martin to test them. Just the other day it was released that there was NOTHING done to the tires in question. Sorry Jack, nice try. Jack Roush supposedly received an anonymous letter in the mail about the tire situation. I heard in a report on the radio from Mark Gerros that Jack had said that Ray has been known to bend the rules before. I want to know when. Ray, in rebuttal said all he wanted to do is face his accusers, which are still nameless. Wouldn't be a suprise to me if Roush wrote the letter out himself. Jealousy runs amuck. Mr. Roush spend all his money to get 5 fords in a team and all he can do usually is finish second to a chevrolet. Kind of disheartening? Yes, but that doesn't give him the right to accuse someone of cheating. Jeff Burton is one of the best in the business, and if he could do better qualifying, he would be the best Ford in the field. Mark Martin recently has found bad luck. Personal tragedy mixed in with bad racing luck has not made for a good last couple of races for him. Chad Little...whatever. Ted Musgrave has recently been released and replaced by Kevin LaPage who is doing great for a car set up for Ford R&D purposes. Johnny Benson has just lost his crew chief because, according to Roush, wanted to move the team. Would you fire a man who worked with you and made you money over the last 11 years just beacuse he wanted to get better help in Charlotte? I don't think so. There has to be more to that story, but I'm not going to read into it, something will come up eventually. Fact is Jack Roush comes to the track a desperate man. He has 5 repeat 5 teams and can't seem to find victory lane as much as expected. All he can do is join the rest of Winston Cup and chase the rainbow. Jack Roush, as I said earlier, accused Ray Evernham of bending the rules in the past. The only reason that Jack has five teams is so he can have more test days. Isn't that bending the rules? NASCAR hasn't done anything about it because they really can't. Every driver is given test days. But, where is all that testing info going? Do you see Chad Little, Johnny Benson, or Kevin LaPage winning races? Nope, you do see Mark Martin and Jeff Burton benefitting from everybody else's testing. That isn't fair. Now I hear you people saying, well the 50 Hendrick car is the same way. Not neccesarily. Chevy isn't paying Rick Hendrick for R&D stuff on the 50 car. Ford is to Roush for the 16 car. Bottom line Mr. Roush, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
Next time you feel like you are being cheated, work harder on your own teams, hell, you have enough. Keep up with your own problems rather than trying to derail someone else. Thank you for listening.
