Restrictor Plate Blues

Well I know by now everybody has seen the Ward Burton Chain Reaction wreck at Talledega over 100 times and got to hear Dale say he was gonna "whoop your ass if you don't leave me alone." Well, you have to watch it and ask yourself, was that wreck really Ward's fault? I mean, I know he hit the apron of the track and started the wreck, but was it his fault that the cars are so close together that a simple love tap could start a herrific accident? Of course it isn't. The fault lies with NASCAR. Restrictor plate races are all the same. You have 43 cars that run the exact same speed and if one goes, they all go. Personally, I know wrecks are a big part of the race. It's also part of the entertainment for the fans in a sick sort of way. Alot of people want to see what a car running 200mph will do when it hits a wall. What you don't seem to realize is that there is someone's kid, dad, and husband driving and hitting that wall. Safety is the first job of NASCAR and I commend them for that. I really don't have a solution for the resrictor plate races. You take them off and you'll see a car wreck at 200+ miles an hour and that could easily destroy the car and maybe the driver. Or you have what we have now. A train effect, where one car jumps out of line, he gets to the back of the field in a hurry, or if someone breaks loose, he could take out 20 cars at a time. The only sure fire way to make sure it doesn't happen is not to race there at all and you know that won't happen. It's all a part of racing, to take a saying of Earnhardt. It's a risk these phenoms are willing to take to entertain us, the fans. One more little side note before I finish. Wasn't it kind of funny that Earnhardt said about Ward Burton "that's not good racing?" How many times has the Intimidator taken cars out of a race and called it good racing? When the tables are turned, it kind of sucks doesn't it Dale? It's all a part of good racing! Thank you for listening.
