Well the 1998 season is upon us people. Just like last year there are driver's griping about the equality of the cars. Last year it was Ford and Chevy bouncing back and forth complaining that Chevy has this, Ford has that bla bla bla. This year it is mainly Chevy drivers complaining about the Ford's downforce and how they can't compete. I have thought about this for a while and I think it's kind of funny. I hope you will too. During the off season, Dale Jarrett was complaining about how hard his team has worked to get the T-Bird good and now having to play with a new car wasn't fair. Mark Martin was quoted as saying that he thinks that he had won his last race. Give the man a towel please. Both Dale and Mark have won races this year after griping and complaining. You don't hear them crying anymore right? Now things seem to be peachy king for the former boo hoo's of the off season. The word sandbagging comes to mind here. Clearly, the Taurus is the dominant car in NASCAR right now. Just as the Monte Carlo dominated the first season it came back, the Taurus is doing now. NASCAR in its never ending battle for equality has taken some things away from the Taurus. The off season boo hoo's resurface. Jack Roush came to the forefront and said, why are they taking so much away from us? We've only won 1(at the time) races this season. It's not the number of wins, it's the total finishes by Ford, that NASCAR is concerned with. The last few races have had one Chevy in the top 10 or 15 finishers. Let's look at the two races that Chevy has won this season. Dale Earnhardt had the best car in the field, no question, and no one really wanted to see him lose again, it was pure driving skill that got him in Victory lane finally. Then Jeff Gordon won Rockingham. Jeff had the worst car (I was there, I know) quite frankly at the beginning of the race, he sucked. Ray and the Warriors worked on that car all day long, taking advantage of others not tweaking their cars to perfection. He became the best car by far. Look at the finishes though, mostly Fords in the top places in both races. Then we move to the Las Vegas/Roush Racing invitational. That wasn't by chance that all the Roush cars finished in the Top 10, it wasn't skill either, it was the car. Atlanta, Bobby Labonte is always good in Atlanta, Fords dominated the top spots again. Then we move to Darlington. A race that broke a record set in the 60's I believe. The first race since then that a Chevy never led a lap. What more do I need to add? Anybody can win with an advantage on the rest of the field. Once again I make my plea, let the drivers in Winston Cup all get the same car like the IROC series and run. The way thing are going is simply not fair. Thank you for listening.
