Delay Or Not Delay, That is The Question

Ok, I finally have a complaint against the people I haven't argued about since I opened this page. The Nascar officials. To this point, I thought NASCAR was fair in their decisions on governing the sport. Atleast until now. I am referring, of course, to Darlington. One question could really sum my thoughts up. Why, in the middle of the rain, did they decide not to throw the red flag and wait until someone wrecked to call the race? I'd love to hear the reason behind that. Yeah, I hear them responding, so the fans can enjoy as much of the race as they possibly can under the situations. To that I say, is the safety of the drivers less important than the happiness of the fans? If you watched the race you know what I am referring to. Some of the drivers were radioing in that there was rain falling. Everybody knew it at the track, you could barely see it on TV, but you knew by the lightning flashes in the back ground that it wasn't the safest place to be. Nascar waited...Finally, Mr. Wreck Ernie Irvan spins out. They can tell you what they want, but you know it was moisture on the track. This started a wreck that put Jeff Burton in the wall. He had no where to go, he still won the race, but did it have to go that far? I think not. Kenny Irwin, Jeff Burton, Jerry Nadeau, Jeff Gordon, and Ernie Irvan were left with wrecked cars and with the exception of Jeff Burton, have nothing to show for it but a wrecked heep of metal. Just because NASCAR wouldn't make a smart choice and call the race, all these guys lost perfectly good cars. What should be done, well you know I wouldn't say I have a problem without giving you a solution. NASCAR needs to listen to the drivers more carefully. yeah, given the circumstances Jeff Burton would have said it was raining regardless because he was leading, but the others really have no reason to lie. Next, NASCAR needs to look at this expensive weather equipment they have and use it wisely. Like this storm just snuck up on them. Please... If you make these choices, and be proactive about it, and not let a bad wreck happen before saying,"Oh duh, it must be raining, lets call the race" this kind of stuff won't have to happen again. I will get off my soapbox for now, thanks for listening.
