I hope everyone got to watch the season finale in Atlanta to see three of the top guns in our sport slug it out for the championship. We were witness to an awesome display of talented drivers going for broke. After everything was said and done, Bobby Labonte won Atlanta again and for the second time in three years, Jeff Gordon came away with the Championship. This caps off a dream season for Jeff and The Warriors. Jeff has accomplished alot this season. He won 10 races, won the Daytona 500, won The Winston Select, won The Winston Million, and ended by winning The Winston Cup Championship. Who else in NASCAR can say they did all that in a season? Next season there will be things to look for. All the "Bandwagon Jumpers" will surface claiming oh I have watched Jeff and rooted for him all my life knowing that they just sold their Earnhardt shirt at a yard sale. People even accused Simmons24 of being a bandwagoneer. Let me tell you like this. Up until 1992 I was a die hard Davey Allison fan. When he died a part of NASCAR died also. Jeff Gordon was a fresh face and really, I didn't like the rest of the group enough to root for them. I became a Jeff Gordon fan for that reason, not that he has done so much in a short time like I and many others have been accused. Some people just don't like change and that is what Jeff gordon means to NASCAR. Young bucks like Bobby Labonte, Ricky Craven, Elliot Sadler, Buckshot Jones, and Jeff Gordon are bringing new blood into the field. Alot of the fans boo at Gordon when he does something right and cheer when he screws up. But after all the boos and hisses, he is still your 1997 Winston Cup Champion like it or not, he did it. I must give the fans credit, I saw alot of people cheering when Gordon did his victory dance on the roof of the car. Giving respect to a young man who truly deserves it. On behalf of myself, Simmons24, I say
