Kingford's History

I first bought my 1966 Coupe in 1992, my senior year in High School. Originally a "C" code 289 with a C-4 automatic transmission and 2.80 gears tucked away in an 8" rear end, it could hardly get out of its own way. If that wasn't bad enough, the car had been painted the ugliest color of green primer known to man, the interior was completly shot, the motor was worn out, the tranny slipped and the suspension was completely wasted after 30 long years of abuse. Still, it was an original V8 car, came with the deluxe "Pony" interior, visibility group package and even power steering. Somehow I saw potential in that little car... ;-)

The Origins of "Kingsford"
When I bought my mustang, it became quite apparent that the local cops in Snottsdale (Scottsdale, AZ to the rest of the world) didn't appreciate a primer green mustang. After being harassed a few times too many, I decided that a color change was in order. However, I was already spending all my cash on the driveline and hence paint funds were at a minimum. A trip to the local Home Depot was necessary to solve this dilemma. Armed with 8 cans of semi-flat black spray paint, I was ready to paint this beast. 30 minutes later my '66 mustang was transformed from a green eye sore to an inferno. I don't know if you've ever been in a black on black car in 118 degree weather without AC, but let me tell you, its freaking hot! After a few weeks into the summer we realized that it was like ridding around inside a charcoil oven. Hence the name "Kingsford" !
