The Fabulous Fifties Remember the
good old days, rock & roll, hot rods and drive in movies? When the
music, the cars, and the people made us smile. A time of Hula Hoops, Rock
and Rollas and Pop- It necklaces, bomb shelters in the backyard and sock
hops at the gym. Remember Frankie Avalon, Fabian and Kookie? Clarabelle,
Mr. Greenjeans and Nellybelle? Silver, Trigger and Target? We sure do,
that's when we grew up and it was a great time, and the music was fantastic,
Dion & thr Belmonts, The Shirelles, Buddy Holly, Drifters, The Crystals.
Remember the Saturday night dances, Fire Drills on Main Street, Wolfman
Jack, Drive-In Movies. How about the TV shows, I Love Lucy, Howdy Doody,
Lassie, Ed Sullivan and of course American Bandstand. These are memories
most of us will never forget. Slick back your hair, or put on your poodle
skirt and enjoy your visit. Hum a little "Doo Wop" just for old times sake
. . . . .
Perhaps you would stop in at your favorite burger joint and order a cherry coke and fries, but whatever you did you did it with friends, plenty of them. We are the largest generation yet. If we didn’t have our own wheels, we borrowed Dad’s. Mine was a borrowed 1957 Chevy. If only we could have appreciated these classics then.
Things were different then, worries were different. Teens worried the bookstore would be out of the Cole’s notes for their English novel, not the video store being out of the movie version. Parents worried their daughters would sneak off and have their ears pierced, now who knows what they may have pierced (son or daughter). The decade that gave birth to Rock 'n Roll. When Friday & Saturday
nights might be spent “Cruising the drag” in your dad’s 57 Chevy. |
