21st International NSU-Treffen, Sempach (CH), 2001
The weekend before the Treffen, me and my wife spent an excelent weekend with 11 british car, in Hoscheid (Luxembourgh). The routes we drove took us through some very nice areas, and included many hairpins and steep hills. During the last day of that weekend, my Tachowelle (speedo cable) broke, so I do not know how much we drove during our 11-day vacation. But from Hoscheid we drove by Saarbrücken, Molheim (birthplace of Bugatti), and Basel, to Sempach. We arrived thursday around lunch; too early for both the Treffen's registration and the hotel, but as it was still nice weather, we took two folding chairs, and sat watching the arrival of the other NSU lovers. Friday, we saw more people arrive. In the afternoon, the first rain; it basically didn't stop raining for the rest of the weekend, apart from the ~1 hour when we needed to take the group photo. Many people already left saturday morning and afternoon; they just didn't have anymore dry clothes available...
We drove the ~850 kilometers back home in two days, staying in a hotel in the small city of Emmelshausen, where we got stranded last year with my 1200C after the 2000 Treffen in Neckarsulm. Only real problem during this whole time 2 week vacation was a plug that kept falling of the spark plug; a 2-cylinder car does not drive well on just 1 cylinder.
