My 1965 NSU Sportprinz
After calling the lady who owned the car, I took my father-in-law along to have a look (he's been in [british] classic cars for years). We were suprised at the almost perfect state the car was in. It had been totally restored in 1998, and she had driven less then 4.000KMs with it. There were several very minor spots where something was off with the paint, and some small scratches on some chrome parts, but that was it ! The interior is original; the carpets and chair covers show their 35 years, but are hardly worn. Everything is there, and there were even two boxes of spare parts, an extra rear window, and an extra engine with it. I did not have to think on this very long: this was a good buy. It's licensed life started in March 1965, in Arnhem, and changed owners in August 1983 and November 1998. If anybody has any information on the other owner(s) of the vehicle, I would appreciate a message!
November 2000 The first time the car had to go for the APK, the annual technical car review, like the english MOT, german TüV, or french CT. The only issue was that I had to replace the rear breakfluid hoses, as one of them was completely gone. January 2001 It's first [re-]appearance during a meeting of the NSU Club Nederland; it received great comments during the nieuwjaarsbijeenkomst 2001. Is seems the car was on a previous club meeting, back in 1984; it even won a price there, that was never collected ... May 2001 To start the 2001 season, my small-engined german car joined several english muscle-cars. We participated in the "Koolzaadrit" of the British Classic Car Friends. During the ~130km drive, we were able to keep up pretty ok. And I guess we kind of fitted in ...
June 2001 During the first weekend of June, I again joined the BCCF, this time in Luxembourgh. We drove tours around the town of Hoscheid - many ups and downs in the roads, and tight turns. But also lot;s of fun, and pretty good weather. The english cars went home on monday, when we continued on via Saarbrücken, Molheim, and Basel on to Sempach (CH) for the 21st International NSU Treffen. We drove back in two days, taking it easy.
The last weekend of the month we spent in the northern part of the Netherlands, in Drachten & Harkstede. My uncle (former owner of the NSU garage where I was born) lives close to Drachten, and in Harkstede the NSU Club Netherlands organized this years "German Marks Bike Tour". I picked up a very nice set of rings for my wheels - see picture on the right.
