Omni/Horizon fan mailThanks for all your responses to my site. I'll continue to post your tips and queries.
"I can't believe that I found someone who is a bigger fan of Omnis and Horizons than I am! I am proud to say that they are the only cars I have ever owned." Chris Handley
" I think the Horizon Home Page is super!! I have four (count 'em!) 4 Omnis and Horizons. One correction. The 1.6L Peugeot engine was available from January of 1983 (when Chrysler dropped the 1.7) until the end of model year '86. They are pretty rare--usually, when you find one, you find that the original owner ordered the car that way--not too many dealers kept Horizons and Omnis in stock with that engine." "I just thought I'd let you know that I loved your site. I had 2 horizons over the years.. one of which was my first car. It was a lovely brown 83", bought for $420. It took me to NH to FL and back and died soon after my return, and was sold for $400. The 2nd, I just retired about a 2 years or so ago and got $200 for my trade in. It was an gray 86" and had 83,000 miles on it, bad breaks and a whole list of other huge problems. I was towed off the beltway about 3 times before I could part with it." Bonnie Brown 20.2.2000 "I have a 1986 Plymouth Horizon with a 1.6 liter Peugeot engine (they came with this engine in 84, 85, 86 not only 84) I bought it for $500 in 1996 with 95,000 miles. I now have 130,000 miles on it, it still goes strong. I make the 400 mile trip to college with out missing a beat. I love the car, it is unbelievable. " Joseph Botti"I am into peugoet powered horizons, by fate. I got one for free and it wont die." Paul Barkdoll "I'm driving an '84 Horizon that's been in my family since it was new. It gets crappy mileage, there's no pickup, and due to a leaky door, every time it rains an inch of water accumulates on the passenger side floor. Sometimes, mysterious puffs of smoke will come out from under the hood. The car also smells weird, and the fabric is coming loose from the roof (it sometimes drapes around my head like a hat). But there's something about it. It's been part of my life, in one way or another, for a long time. It feels like home. I'll probably have to replace it this year, before it blows up under me. But the day I do will be a day a certain part of myself dies. " Jerry Salley "My Horizon is called the great pumpkin by all who know me because of it's distinctive orange color. It's an 81 model and currently has only 88,500 miles on it. I've got to adjust the brakes again, and change the timing belt, along with a few other things, but its still the phattest ride out there. A real honey wagon. The chicks dig the imitation leather bucket seats." "I bought my 83 horizon for $200. it leaks oil, gas, power steering fluid, and antifreeze. its hood and roof at oxidized and the heat doesn't work. but i love it. it still buzzes around like a baby. and always starts (after stalling a couple of times) horizons rule!" Sarah, Massachusetts "Yes you could say I like these little cars, Ive had too much fun in them not to!" Rich Johnston, Indiana "What do you do about those door handles on the Omni and Horizon that are always snapping inside the door skin?" Owen Fitzsimmons, Bismarck, North Dakota "I am into peugeot powered horizons, by fate. I got one for free and it wont die." Paul Barkdoll
"I have an 83 2.2L with nitrous oxide injection. It's gotta be the most fun thing I've driven since my NOS powered Caddy Fleetwood Brougham. BTW, if you or anyone else is looking for an attractive upgrade to 15" rims, I have an endless supply of current year Saturn alloy wheels. They bolt right up and look EXCELLENT. If you know anybody that needs them, let me know. I autocross the thing, and with the 195/50 fronts and the 205/50 rears, it handles superbly." ([email protected]) Gino "I have a lot of old TSBs and service manuals--if any fellow Horizon lover needs a tech question answered, I'll do my best to send an answer. These cars were probably one of the best things that the Chrysler Corporation ever built--and they were terribly underrated when they were new. (Doesn't it make you mad when you hear someone extoll the virtues of the K Car "the car that saved Chrysler"? Hey, if it weren't for the Horizon, there wouldn't have been a Chrysler left for the K Car to save!!!!!!!!!) And people are just now starting to appreciate them. Hey! Horizons kick butt!!!"Linnea Krajewski, Boston, Massachusetts "I had an 84 Horizon... It had 210,000 miles on it and it ran great. I bought it for 500 dollars. I fixed it up a bit and sold it for 600 and inherited my dad's 89 Horizon. This thing is indestrutable. I drive the hell out of it (I drove from Long Island to North Carolina and back three times and from Long Island to Richmond and back twice) and the only thing wrong is that I have a power steering leak. The Horizon wasn't mean to have power steering anyway. I have about 170,000 miles on it. The paint is really starting to peel off it now. I have seen this on other Plymouth vehicles made in the late 80's." "Hi, I beat that mileage by a ton on my '85 dodge charger. I retired it to my barn pending rebuild/soupup with just under 257K miles!! I love these little cars. I just picked up an '87 Horizon with 90K miles for 7 bucks. needs a little tlc but will get me by till I get my baby back on the road with a turbo and beefier suspension." Jerry Zachmann
"Repairs rule on these things. I usually do them myself because they are so easy. Parts are cheap too. I redid both sets of brakes for under $40. Amazing." "The only negative thing about the Horizon is that it repels the women. (are you sure its the car? NK) I guess that's a sacrifice you have to make inorder to own the greatest car in the world." D.Keller, University of Richmond, VA."Yes you could say I like these little cars, Ive had too much fun in them not to!" Rich Johnston, Indiana
