Horizon-O-Rama

auto design - cars - CCS -home - personal - portfolio - resume

here it is...

the original Horizon-O-Rama, up and running since October 1996. I bought my Plymouth Horizon for a thousand big ones back in February 1993 with about 87k miles on it. Then drove it over 2700 miles from San Francisco to Detroit. In 1996 I completed the coast to coast trip by driving it to New York.

Why am I wasting my time doing this? Because I want to enlighten all the non-believers :) There are so many pages dedicated to Ferraris, Porsches, etc. that I think there must be some people out there who are fellow Omni/Horizon fans. This will become the mecca for Horizon fans worldwide! Anyway, people need to lighten up, especially car freaks like me. Let me know if you have more info about this awe-inspiring vehicle! Cheers also to Charles Gal of the Edmonton Journal for the August 28, 1998 article about this site.

me and my car

Enter the Horizon Gallery (with final images!)

My car was sold...

in May 1997 for $400. It had 107k on the clock and a broken exhaust, but still put a smile on my face. I've finally put the final photos in the Horizon Gallery (see above). I have finally replaced it with another silver underpowered car, a Ford Ka (the choice of young car designers world wide!) The Ka has pretty much nothing in common with my hooptie except for the fuzzy dice.

specifications

I know all you die hard car nuts will want to know the specs on my baby. Here they are: My Horizon was built in December 1984 at the Belvidere, IL plant. It was one of the few Horizons that came with 1.6L Peugeot engines. Horsepower is 64@4800rpm;Torque is 87ft.lb@ 2800 rpm; Compression ratio is 8.8:1. Mine is a California model with Cali emissions, so take those impressive figures down 5-10%. I've never timed it at the strip, but I figure with my four-speed, 0-60 is attainable in around 13-15 seconds and the 1/4 mile in about 20 seconds give or take. Top speed is around 95mph (the speedo only goes up to 85mph, but the needle winds past that point...). For you eco-conscious types: fuel economy is between 35-40 mpg (with the pedal to the metal I might add).

modifications

  • March 1993- bought fuzzy dice (what else could you add?)
  • April 1993- added a Profile AM/FM radio/cassette player with auto-reverse (the stock radio was AM only...)
  • October 1993- added two door mounted speakers (and kept the single stock speaker in the dashboard to make a thundering 3 speaker system...)

    Thanks for visiting

I'm overwhelmed by the response I've received over the years. I really appreciate all the e-mails you've sent me and I can tell that this little crap car has meant a lot to many people (especially Canadians for some reason). Feel free to sign or view my Guestbook. (I didn't realize how many other Omni/Horizon fans are out there.) Last, but not least, here is a plug for Geocities who graciously provide this web page free of charge, but not free of ads...
