Stars of Fire and Ice

Chapter Six

Serena arrived to school the next morning, the children gossiping together excitedly. Amy, as usual, was already in the classroom, her nose stuck in a book. A few students teased and taunted the shy girl, leaving when Kakarot, Turles and Vegeta chose to sit around her. Amy looked up startled, unaccustomed to all the attention. Serena always smiled at her, ever since the hospital, but Vegeta and Turles usualy went out of their way to avoid her.

"Morning, Amy." The students were still in an excited buzz, ignoring the bell. "What's going on?"

Amy handed Serena a news article, going back to her homework. They had a math test that morning and she didn't want to miss a single question. Serena could only smile, as she read the newspaper. It was titled the Six o'clock Bus. Several girls, between the ages of fourteen to eighteen have gone missing, disappearing shortly after visiting the Hikawana Shrine. Mr. Hino, owner of the shrine, was a suspect in the disappearances, but Police have yet to come up with any leads. His granddaughter, refused to comment to the press, a priestess at the local shrine.

There was a picture of the young girl. She was fifteen, and had long Raven hair that fell to her waist. Her eyes were almost purple, and she was dressed in a red and white kimono, wooden sandles on her feet. Two crowes sat on her her shoulders, but it was the look in her expression that caught Serena's attention more than anything else.

She was an example of perfection, regale and cold. The article went on to mention her psychic abilities. 'I bet she doesn't have a lot of friends.' Her name was Raye and she went to an all girls' private school. The Hikawana Shrine had recently started to sale luck charms, sold by the newest member.

Serena found him in the park, stretching for a short jog. Darien greeted her with a smile, making sure to check his shoe laces. "Is it hard?" Serena asked, biting her lip. She wasn't well known for her athletic abilities, but if she were to continue her battles as Sailor Moon, perhaps she should change a few things.

Darien laughed, "it can be if you've never ran before."

"I used to run to school every morning, but Kakarot makes sure to wake me up by six thirty now."

"Is everything ok?" Darien asked, studying Serena carefully. She didn't look unhappy, but Serena had a habit of keeping secrets.

"We still have things to work out, but at least we're talking again."

"Did you need something Serena? Aren't you usually at the arcades?"

"I was wondering, do you known anything about the old shrine?"

"The Hikawana Shrine?" Darien stopped stretching, suspicious and worried. "You shouldn't go there, Serena."

"Is it because of the disappearing girls?"

"Then I don't have to tell you."

"I don't think the priestess or her grandfather are responsible though."

Darien sighed, tugging on one of Serena's odangos; "You can't see the bad in anyone, can you?"

Serena crossed her arms, "Is there something wrong with that?"

"Look, Serena. Stay away from the shrine. You're probably right, but the police should be the ones to handle this."

"I don't think they can," Serena mumbled beneath her breath. Darien glared at the young blond, grabbing her arm.

"Serena, if you're planning to do something so stupid..." Darien restrained his temper, but Serena could still see the spark of anger. "You're not going alone," he finally said.

"But..."

"Forget it, Serena. Either we go together, or I'll carry you home personally."

Darien would do it. "I only wanted to meet the priestess; she looked like she needed a friend."

Sernea had never seen anything so ancient, serene and peaceful. There were hundreds of girls lined up at a booth, all wanting a good luck charm. Her eyes searched for anything out of the norm, but everything seemed to be ok. A dark energy brushed against her, causing Serena to shiver. Where had it come from? Sitting at the booth, was a blond man, his eyes as cold as ice.

'He's the one. How do I know that?'

"Serena, what's wrong?"

"We have to find Raye."

Darien followed Serena through the empty passage ways, passing through beautiful gardens with Cherry Blossom Trees. He was starting to believe Serena about the innocence of Raye and her grandfather, but Darien also knew there was something dark and evil hovering above this shrine. "Can I help you? The charms are being sold at the main entrance."

The priestess stood proud and tall, her personality defiant of outsiders. "I just wanted to meet the owner."

"That's my grandfather, and he isn't seeing visitors right now. Go home."

"Wait!" Serena cried desparately, taking the girl's hand. "I know you're not the one attacking or hurting those girls."

For a moment, Raye's expression softened. "It isn't safe, you should leave."

"Aren't you afraid?"

"Very little frightens me, Serena."

Darien and Serena gaped at the priestess. Neither of them had revealed their names. The rumors about Ray were true; she indeed was a psychic. Again, the dark feeling washed over Serena. It was stronger. Serena glanced over her shoulder. The temple stairs were empty, all the girls lined up at the stairs. "What time is it?"

"Six o'clock."

"We shouldn't let people ride that bus!" Serena shouted, running down the stairs two at a time.

"Serena! You meatball head!" Darien chased after her, leaving Ray standing alone. Her purple eyes flashed; there was something about Serena and Darien, something very, very familiar. She started to turn around, but for the first time she hesitated.

Unlike other visitors, Darien and Serena hadn't looked at her with fear. They were simply curious, and something more if Raye wanted to accept it. There was friendship in Serena's gaze, a pure innocence that rarely existed. A vision flashed before her eyes, one of death and blood. 'Serena will die.' Raye paled. 'I have to help her, but how! What's attacking those girls? Her grandfather couldn't afford another kidnapping. The cops had threatened to shut down the shrine and keep him in jail for questioning. He was too old to survive the cold nights.

Something glittered in a nearby bush. It was a small red pen, with a strange symbol designed at the top. She saw red flames, and a piece clicked in her mind. This was a part of her destiny, a part of a past that she often dreamt of. Serena and Darien were also vital to that destiny. Serena was the vital link.

A black cat sat in the tree above, already disappearing. Lifting the magic pen in the air, Raye instinctively knew what to say; "MARS POWER!" Red flames circled her body, burning away her kimono and replacing it with a white body suit and red skirt. On her feet were high heels and a golden tira, with a red stone in the center, on her forehead.

Serena, Darien and the girls had already boarded the bus, but Raye wasn't about to give up. Charging after them, she grabbed onto the bumper, pulling herself up until she could open the emergency exit and throw herself onto the floor. All the girls were unconscious and Serena was in the middle of fighting with the driver.

A black portal opened, sucking them and the bus into it. In the distance, there were several other buses, floating in the air. She had a strong feeling that all the missing girls were on them. Raye had to save them and clear her grandfather's name.

Darien was protectively keeping Serena behind him, waiting until the bus stopped before he jumped off. Serena was close behind, followed by the monster. Raye tried to shake the unconscious girls awake, the charms held tightly in their hands.

The monster shot a wave of energy at Darien and Serena, barely missing either of them. Serena glared at the thing, jumping to her feet and hitting it with a side kick. Raye hissed in outrage. Why was Serena fighting? She was never a violent person! Raye blinked. Pieces of her memories were returning. "Mars Fire..." A red ball of flame began to build at the tips of her fingers, aimed at the negaverse monster. "Ignite!"

A shriek of rage was her response, the monster dodging out of the way. It lunged for the fire priestess, its teeth bared. Raye rolled to her back and kicked up, tossing it away. "We have to help her," Serena shouted. Darien grabbed her, shielding her from another attack. This one had come from behind.

Darien trembled in pain, glaring at the blond man hovering above them. He was dressed in a gray uniform and white gloves. "Jedite!"

"Who are you?" he demanded, not recognizing Darien.

Serena gasped at the burnt flesh on Darien's back. A silver light began to build around her, her gaze hard and lethal. "Stop protecting me," Serena growled. Standing to her feet, her body standing protectively in front of Darien. He sank to the ground unconscious, giving Serena the opportunity she'd been looking for. "MOON PRISM POWER!"

Jedite threw a shower of blasts at Sailor Moon, but she dodged as she ran towards the general. She jumped into the air, knocking him to the ground. "You're over your head, girl!"

Serena suddenly recognized the general. He had been one of the ones to murder the girls in her dream. "You!" She screamed, digging her fingers into his throat. Jedite went from cocky to terrified in seconds, trying to throw the enraged sailor senshi off.

Desparate, he kneed her in the chest, managing to weaken her grip. Serena was slammed painfully against a bus, followed by several blasts to the ribs. She coughed up blood, but her silver gaze continued to blaze with defiant hatred.

"NO!" Raye screamed, knocking Sailor Moon out of the way before Jedite could deliver the final blow. "Don't be so reckless!"

"Now is not the time," Sailor Moon snarled. "We have to stop them!"

"I can't do that if you die!" Raye screamed, slapping Sailor Moon hard across the face. Tears streaked down her face. "I don't know what the hell is going on, but I do know that I can't do this without you! You're not supposed to be fighting! We're your protectors! Why are you doing this? Why is it happening all over again?"

Sailor Moon wanted to comfort the woman, but first she had a battle to finish. "Mars, get up! You're a lot stronger than this! I didn't ask for any of this, and I'm sorry that you were involved."

Mars forced herself to stand, pressing her back against Sailor Moon's. Jedite and the other monster circled them, building a combined attack that was sure to kill them both. 'Dammit! How do I kill these bastards?' Sailor Moon wanted to scream.

Amy dropped her books, stepping outside the library. Something was terribly wrong, 'Serena...' She quickly ran towards the orphanage, desparate to find Kakarot or Vegeta. They would know how to locate Serena.

Raditz was in the courtyard, praticing a martial arts dance when he spotted the blue haired girl. "They're not here."

"You know Vegeta and Kakarot?"

"I should. Kakarot is my brother," Raditz growled, already bored with the conversation. Did humans always state the obvious, or were they just naturally stupid?

Amy stormed up to Raditz and grabbed him by the collar. "I don't have time for your snobbish remarks!" Raditz snarled at her. "Don't give me that look! Dammit, Serena will die if I don't find them!"

Raditz shook the blue headed girl, his eyes glowing dangerously. "What the hell are you talking about? Where is she?"

"I don't know!" Amy screamed in frustration.

"Let's go," Raditz growled, dragging Amy behind him. "They went to the track, and won't be back for several hours. I thought she was heading for the arcade?"

"How would I know? I'm always at the library!"

"What the hell for? There's nothing but books there!"

"That's the point of going to a library! To read!"

"What are you... a book nerd?" Amy hissed, jerking out of Raditz's grip.

"Go to hell! I can find Serena on my own!" Raditz smirked, following after her.

A black cat ran up to them, jumping into Amy's arms. She meowed, taking off, stopped and looked at Amy and Raditz to follow. "That's Serena's cat," Raditz said, already on the move.

Amy hated the tall teenager, but she needed his help if she were to find Serena in time. The feeling of urgency increased. A blue symbol appeared on her forehead and in seconds she was catching up to Luna and Raditz. Raditz glanced at the girl in surprise.

If he had his scouter, he'd bet all his money that her ki would be over a thousand. Luna ran towards the Hikawana shrine, stopping at the bus stop. She pawed at the post, dragging out something blue and very small. It was a pen.

'No,' Amy wanted to scream. 'I don't want to fight anymore!'

'That is your choice,' a feminine voice sadly said. 'Decide now, senshi of wisdom and ice. You may walk away, but know that three of your cloests friends will die today.'

Amy cried in fear and pain, her head throbbing in pain. "NO! I don't want to remember! Stop it! It hurts!" Again she screamed, releasing a single blast that pierced the heavens. Grabbing the blue pen, she raised it up; "MERCURY POWER!" Blue ice transformed her into a senshi with a white and blue uniform, a gold tira with a blue stone on her forehead. She wore white gloves and blue boots.

"What the hell are you?" Raditz growled, watching a black portal appear in the sky.

"Sailor Mercury! Dammit, I need to get up there!"

Raditz snarled in annoyance, but he'd rather deal with the blue haired wench than Kakarot if something happened to Serena. "Hold on!" He shot into the air, rushing through the portal before it closed. Below they could see several buses, a man dressed in gray, a monster and two women fighting for their lives.

"MERCURY ICE BUBBLES, BLAST!"

Everything was shrouded in a mist of fog, freezing their enemies. Jedite swore, trying to find the two sailor senshi. They had scattered, attacking him from different directions. Raditz had taken on the other monster, driving a fist through its chest.

Mars and Sailor Moon were punching and kicking Jedite, unaware of the sword that cut his head cleanly off. Standing behind Jedite was a dark headed man, dressed in black armor. His eyes were blue, laced in cold malice. They were similar to Sailor Moon's expression. "Darien?" Mars asked.

"Cutting it close, weren't you Mars?"

Raditz landed next to Sailor Moon, snagging the senshi by the arm and pulling her behind him. He was trembling with rage, "Stay away from her."

"You can't tell us..." Raditz thrust Raye against a bus, his breath inches from her throat.

"Never challenge a Saiya-jin."

"Raditz, stop it!" He glared at Sailor Moon, wrapping a powerful arm around her waist.

"We can't afford to lose Kakarot! Onna, if you ever do anything this stupid again..."

"This is what I do, Raditz!"

"Like hell!" Raditz roared. "Everything you do affects Kakarot and Vegeta has made it quite clear that nothing is to happen to you!"

"We'll discuss this later!" Mercury shouted. "If we don't leave now, we'll be stuck here! This dimension is collapsing!"

Mercury started to concentrate, opening the portal one last time. Darien jumped on to a bus, having already tied the others to it. "Get on!" Everyone except for Raditz and Sailor Moon joined Darien, the Saiya-jin already landing on the other side, refusing to release her.

"I'm not a child!"

"Stop acting like one then! Only a child would challenge a power stronger than he can handle!"

"I didn't come here to fight!"

"Save it!" Raditz growled.

"Are you always this stubborn!"

"Get use to it!"

Kakarot immediately felt the tension when Vegeta, Turles and himself arrived home. Two girls sat on a bench, glaring at Raditz, Serena forced to sit in front of him. His arms were crossed and he snarled every time Serena tried to move. Leaning against a wall, the only calm one out of the group was Darien. He nodded to Kakarot, but said nothing as he waited.

Darien was dressed in some kind of strange armor, and all the girls were dressed in short uniforms. Serena looked annoyed, but the other two were furious. Luna was quickly beside him, purring loudly in his ear. "Your brother acts like an angry parent," Luna said.

"What happened?"

"He found out about Serena." Kakarot almost laughed. "She went to the shrine to meet the black haired girl you see next to Amy, but found herself in the middle of a fight instead."

"Let me guess; they're Sailor Mars and Mercury. Darien is the Prince of Earth, Endymion, and none of them understand why Serena is suddenly fighting."

"You're taking this rather well, better than the last time."

"I'm not happy with it, but I can't always be there for her either. She needs further training."

"I can't let anyone find out about her," Luna protested.

"They won't," Kakarot promised.

Serena spotted him and jumped up, but Raditz shoved her back down, and stormed over to his brother. "I'm not a baby sitter, Kakarot!"

"I didn't ask for one."

"She's not strong enough to fight these monsters and you know it!"

"I'm well aware of their enemy's strength, Raditz. You've only seen a portion of their army and power. These girls need training and we need the challenge. Their enemy will stop at nothing to kill them!"

"Raditz! The girls will be trained," Vegeta commanded.

"Dammit!" he protested.

Vegeta snarled, his expression very lethal. "You know our objective and why we're here, Raditz. Besides, I'd rather have them fighting than cowering beneath a bed or crying!"

"I'm impressed," Turles taunted. "Most girls worry about their hair or nails."

"Kakarot, take care of the Olympics," Vegeta ordered, heading for the showers. "None of these girls will be left unprotected."

"We don't need your help!" Mars growled.

"I'm not offering," Vegeta snarled.
