A cannon always helps Submitted by -Dudeguy-Ki!!, December 26, 1998

This story has a very valuable lesson to be learned. Today I played concord1, a very respectable player I might add and a nice guy. He was bragging about how he thought he was going to win a ffa against jmjkwag, BlueShadowz, Tyrin, chayliss, and others (sorry I forget the names). Judging by the experiences I've had with his opponents I was naturally skeptical and I told him flat out that I didn't believe him.

He said that they were playing on Fixed GoW and he had top right. He supposedly expanded to 12 and top left without any interaction with any of the other players. Now again that'sjust hard to believe so I told him again that I thought he was lying to me. I was so amused and amazed that someone would try to say something like that so I challenged him to a game.

We began, I asked what stage and I left the options open for water (I'm getting kind of good at water) but he insisted on Fixed GoW again so I thought to myself "Hehe, newbies..."

We began Fixed GoW High Resources just like he requested. I usually wall in on Fixed GoW and get an expansion right off the bat but this time I decided to test him with an offensive tower. I searched with my little peon and found his base in the top right corner. It was pitiful. He was trying to wall in with a blacksmith and 2 farms with NO towers to back it up. I chuckled to myself as I hurriedly built my cannon tower to take out his lumber gathering peons. That was successful because he had no grunts with which to take out my tower so I didn't even wall it in. He didn't even have a barracks yet! I was now laughing to myself wondering why newbies say stuff like he did. Well, I charged him with 9 level 3 grunts that I had waiting at my base and crushed his town...but the game went on.

I searched with my peon again and found that he was building an expansion at 5:30 so I attacked with my grunts again.

This time he was a little smarter. He had a walled in cannon tower that took out 6 of my 9 grunts so I built a catapult while getting an ogre mound. By the time my cat was done I had 6 ogres with which to attack with after I got rid of his tower. I pressed on and was romping all over him at 5:30. All this time I hadn't built anything more because he offered no resistance at all so I didn't think I needed it. I had about 12 ogres now just going to town on his farms and hadn't even thought about getting lust when I heard "They're destroying our city!!!). I frantically searched my town and found that he had an ogre attacking my farms. Ha ha I thought, 1 ogre can't do much...then I clicked on it. OGRE MAGE LEVEL 8 CRAP!!! He had another expansion somewhere!! Now feeling like a total retard I attempted to build 3 more barracks (I only had 2) but he sent a huge wave of lusted ogres into my town attacking everything in sight. I thought for sure I was screwed so I got 1 peon the heck outta there. I attacked with the only forces that I could, 12 ogres, 3 grunts, and 1 catapult. Needless to say they all met their death quickly and violently. With my 1 escaped peon I raced down to 5:00 and built a hall. I thought maybe, just maybe I could come back and offer a little resistance. Well he went on destroying my town really slowly and thought I was dead. He was joking around with me and wanting to show me his "ogre victory dance" so I let him foolishly continue. All the while I had gotten a pretty good town going at 5:00 and had 4 barracks and a fortress. He destroyed my last farm and asked where I was. I quickly sent an ogre up to my old town and told him I only had 1 ogre left. It worked. I made him chase my ogre down until he finally cornered it in the middle and killed it. He asked where I was now so I reminded him of the towers. He said he felt stupid and went to crush them. All the while I had gotten lust and a half decent sized army of ogre mages. He finally did find my last town and sent ALL of his ogres down, about 50 in all vs my 25-30 ogres. He rampaged through my town and he won.

The moral of this story is NEVER EVER stop building units and expanding because you never know what your opponent is up to. Another moral of this story is always have good recon. If I had seen him start to expand I would have won easily. On the other side if he would have seen ME expand I wouldn't have offered him anymore trouble. And finally one last moral: NEVER give up. I slacked off and I lost, he expanded and grew even through both of his towns being destroyed and came back to win. I can't believe I made such a fool out of myself Good luck in all your games!

Since I'm not a Multiplayer guy I play single player extensively and have some cool tips to tell you. (I would have them in the tips section, but they are too long. More like advanced strategies.) The Raise Dead spell is one of the best. People ignore it a lot because skeletons are weak. HOWEVER, they take no food and no money, so why the hell not make them? Here's a good place to make them.

Take an island base. Send over six death knights with raise dead and D+D. Fry their peons, and raise their dead bodies. The skeletons will kill their other peons and the DK's can run away while the computer wipes out you skeleton. Point being: kill their peons with no cost (except magic whoopee) and slow their production. Then bomb their cannon towers with juggs while they can't repair. This would probably also work in multi but I dunno. Only if you're opponent was dumb enough to attack the skeletons. leave his peons undefended, and not send juggs over to blast your transports, preventing escape. The comp will do all of the stupid things here. Also, you can send four dk's and wipe out a waiting army. Often small outposts with a couple of towers and several ogres will be placed somewhere. You can d+d the tower and run from the ogres. Now, quickly, fire some death coil from your other dk's and kill a couple of ogres. Then raise the bodies.

It takes a quick mouse finger to do that, but if you can, it rulz. Finally, the bodies will engage anything else nearby and your dk's can back them up with D+D and whatever magic they may have left. If your skeletons get maimed, just retreat the dk's to some waiting towers. That's it for the mini-strategy guide. Cromar, War2 master and writer.

Iwas chatting in the war2 room and this guy (who I will leave nameless) starts running his mouth. He was swearing and telling everyone that he was the BEST player there ever was. So me and one of my buddies started to talk to him. All I heard for the next 5 minutes was how good he was and that he could take Xammax, Ah69, and many other great players on Heat.

I hate playing people like this (heck I usally don't even bother with them). But I figured what the heck. If I lose he is still a jerk. But if I win, maybe I can save some people from hearing his crap.

We played the basic GOW high res game. He told me that he was a master rusher and he will take it easy on me this time (and kill me quick).

I started off building my basic game. I found him when I had 5 lvl 3 Grunts. So I sent 3 in to see his! set up. I couldn't believe it, he had 1 barracks, 3 farms, 1 grunt and was upgrading his Town hall. I killed off his racks and sent in 12 more grunts to finish him.

The big point to this story is..... DON'T BE COCKY I am a average player on heat. If you are a newbie please don't run your mouth. Just take your bumps like we all did at first. Thanks Brass1

Ok, i play on kali, i am an over average, not quite expert player on kali. i belong to a selest clan called Ki!!. i played this newbie once. He wanted HSC, and personally, i hate water. so i wanted one way, we bargained and we decided on gow. i decided to double hall and get as much of a grunt rush as possible. I am not a good rusher, but i thought wtf, it's a newbie!

So i sent 6 lvl 3 grunts to his base, that I had explored early with a peon. He had nothing, 2 grunts, a smith, barracks, and 9 farms and alot of lumber cut off. FARMS???!!! I was confused ,a stupid newbie strat, i thought, lots of lumber early??? i destroyed his base anyway, i then scouted with flyers and found a rebelion base. 6 barracks!!! and a hall, tons of gold and peons, no lumber done about 20 grunts.

I almost had lust so i wasn't THAT worried, but it's alot grunts, and every second he got 6 more, so i thought i will get his base with d+d so i w8ed 5 mins and got 20 lusted ogres and 4 hasted dk's. i thought he would be so screwed.

He had over 100 grunts, i swear! i don't no when the max units kicks in but he had to be pushing the limit, so i got scared but carried out with plans, i got mabye 75 of his hundred. i then began to wonder, how did he have that many units with no farms. i scouted more and found a fortress and many dk's and ogre-mages, the works. i was screwed he attacked and slaughtered, i died and complimented his strategie. this may seem far fetched but it's true.

moral: never underestimate the power of an untested newbie!
