Department of Industrial Technology Master of Science Degree Programs
The Department of Industrial Technology has two graduate programs.

  1. The M.S. in Technology/Career and Technical Education- focuses on the application of the specific study and use of technology for students pursuing a degree in the areas of technology education and career and technical education.
  2. The M.S. in Industrial Technology is for students pursuing a degree in industrial technology, manufacturing, business, and enterprise quality leadership. The program encompasses the advanced study of quality methods, technical processes, problem solving, and application of leadership skills in non-educational environments.

Master Of Science - Technology/Career and Technical Education
The program options encompass the advanced study of educational methods, technical processes, problem solving, and the application of leadership skills in the educational environment.

Preparation Requirements Undergraduate major or minor in industrial technology, technology education, and/or career and technical education.

Course Work Requirements
I. Required Professional Education Core

ED 6100 Educational Research (3 credits)

Master Of Science -- Industrial Technology
This program provides graduate education for non-teaching individuals. The program focuses on developing industrial technology and quality leadership abilities and the application and analysis of techniques in these areas.

Preparation Requirements Undergraduate major or minor in industrial technology is suggested, but other degrees may be appropriate based on the applicant’s career history and interests.

Competency Requirement
Students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the computer application of statistics used in technology.

Admission Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 is required for admittance. However, students with an undergraduate grade point average below 2.75 may be admitted on a provisional basis. For students admitted provisionally, a "B" (3.00) average must be attained for the first eight (8) semester hours of resident graduate work attempted.
Students who are within eleven (11) semester hours of satisfying undergraduate degree requirements may petition to take course work at the graduate level
Students must rank in the upper 50% of their graduating class or score 21 or above on the ACT.

Application procedures for Non-BSU Graduates:

Submit Application for Admission to Graduate Studies Office to the Graduate Studies office.
Submit a $20.00 non-refundable application fee payable to BSU.
Request one (1) official transcript from the undergraduate institution where you received your bachelor’s degree and from each graduate college or university you previously attended. Send directly to the Graduate Studies Office.
Submit two (2) letters of recommendation from a previous employer or professor.
Submit a copy of a current or previous valid teaching license or appropriate certificates.  
A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score is required of all applicants whose first language is not English.

Master's Degree Program Options

THESIS OPTION Course Requirements: A minimum of thirty (30) credits is required in the Thesis Option. This includes the credits granted for the thesis. A maximum of ten (10) semester credits or the equivalent may be considered in transfer from another regionally accredited U.S. or approved international college or university. The thesis, which is prepared with the guidance of the advisory committee, must be written in acceptable English, demonstrate an ability to work independently, and give evidence of independent thought, both in perceiving problems and making satisfactory progress toward their solution.

RESEARCH PAPER OPTION Course Requirements: A minimum of thirty (30) credits are required in the Research Paper Option. This includes the credits granted for the research paper. A maximum of ten (10) semester credits or the equivalent may be considered in transfer from another regionally accredited U.S. or approved international college or university. Two (2) credits may be granted for the research paper.

Final Comprehensive Examinations
All major programs require satisfactory completion of a final written and oral examination.

Estimated Costs For the 2004-2005 academic year, the estimated cost of attendance for students living on campus is approximately $11,604, which includes tuition, fees, room and board.

Students who live on campus receive in-state tuition regardless of their home state, room rates stay fixed for up to four years, and students pay for only 12 credits per semester, although they can take up to 24 credits per semester.

The Center for Extended Learning at Bemidji State University facilitates a variety of degree programs for distance learners: the MSIT degree program are offered through a variety of flexible delivery options, including online, self-study and other methods. Depending upon the classes you select, you may only need to come to campus to defend your final paper.

Tuition rates are competitive, costing only $245.00/semester credit plus $15 fee per credit (subject to change). Additionally, out of state students registering for on-line classes qualify for instate tuition.
