Chapter Three |
Alexandra walked around the airport terminal anxiously while the car rental company found her a car. She noticed a lot of young girls walking around in groups like they were on the hunt for something. She watched them with a slight smile as she remembered what it was like to be 12. "Miss Soldatova, your car is ready. Come this way, please." The car rental employee said bringing her out of her thoughts. Alexandra reluctantly followed him to the back with all of her luggage.
Alexandra walked around the other cars parked in the parking lot and wondered why it took them so long to get her a car. She had been waiting for close to twenty minutes before her car was ready while there were at least 100 other cars available. "Here is your car and you have it on loan for a month." The man said as he handed Alexandra the car keys. "I don't get it. Which car is mine?" Alexandra asked as she stood between two expensive sports cars. "The one right next to you." The man said as he pointed to a black Lexus coupe. "This one?" She asked again to double check. "Yes, that one." He replied with a smile. "Okay, thank you." Alexandra mumbled as she fumbled with the car keys to open the trunk. Once the trunk was opened she tossed in her luggage with a heavy thud. She was physically and emotionally exhausted and it seemed the only person she knew in Orlando was that Nick guy but he was all of a sudden a distant memory.
Alexandra started the car and loved the purr of the engine. "Now, how does this work again?" Alexandra joked as she put the car in reverse. She hadn't touched a car in over a year since she had lived in Los Angeles. She grabbed one of her Jonny Lang CDs and popped it in as she turned the volume up. "Now this is more like it." She said with a smile. Alexandra slowly made her way out of the parking garage until she came up to a red light. While she waited she pulled out her cellphone and turned it on. She glanced up at the light and was happy to see that it was still red. She pulled out the instructions to the hotel and quickly read them off as she waited for the light to turn green. She was close to understanding where she was going when she heard a honk. She turned to her right and saw a guy waving at her and mouthing something to her. She rolled down her window and squinted to see that it was Nick with two other guys in the car but it was too dark to make out their faces. "Nice wheels!" Nick shouted. "Yeah, it's okay." Alexandra said with little enthusiasm. Nick chuckled and gave her a cute half smile. Alexandra was about to say something when she noticed that the light turned green. "I guess I'll see you later!" Alexandra shouted as she floored it and peeled out of the parking garage onto the busy streets of Orlando.
Nick shook his head with a smile before turning around in his seat to look at AJ. "Man, she's perfect for you." "Oh? I thought you wanted her for yourself." AJ replied with a smirk. "Nah man, she probably didn't even know I was alive until I knocked her down in the plane." Nick commented. "You knocked her down!?" Brian laughed as he drove towards AJ's house to drop him off. "Yeah, I didn't mean to at first but I'm kinda glad I did." Nick said as he rubbed his tired eyes. "I thought you said she was perfect for *me*. Last time I checked, we don't share." AJ joked. "She's really cool and kinda blunt." Nick explained. "Didja get her digits?" AJ asked. "Shit." Nick mumbled. AJ leaned over and patted Nick on the shoulders. "No worries. I didn't get a good look at her so I'm sure I'm not missin' anything." AJ teased.
*** Nick sat in his seat trying to get comfortable. "How'd it go in NY?" Brian asked as he tried to make conversation. "It went okay, I guess. This whole idea of doing a solo project on the side is still really weird to me." Nick said as he stared out the window. "Krista will be glad to see you." Brian commented. "Yeah, I missed her, too." Nick replied. "Shit, who said she missed you? Brian just said she's gonna be glad to see you. I kept her busy while you were gone." AJ stated trying to piss Nick off about his girlfriend. "Hey AJ? Remember, I'm bigger than you so you better shut up." Nick said as AJ laughed. "That's a good one, Nicky." AJ replied as she messed up Nick's hair from the backseat. Nick pushed his hand away and glared out the window. "Drop AJ off first. He's beginning to piss me off." Nick demanded while Brian laughed to himself. "Good. Then my job here is done." AJ replied as Brian pulled up in front of his house. "I'll call you tomorrow, Rok. Nick, get some sleep buddy. You're in a bitchy ass mood." AJ stated. "Yeah, I will. Later." Nick mumbled with little enthusiasm. AJ looked at Brian who shrugged in response. "Later, Bri. Glad to have you back, Nick." AJ said with a serious voice. "Thanks." Nick answered with a slight smile. "See ya!" Brian said in a high pitched voice as they pulled out of his driveway.
"Shouldn't we wait until he's all the way in the house before we leave? What if fans are hiding out?" Nick asked as they drove down the street. The guys had become accustom to waiting for one another to get into their house before leaving due to problems in the past with fans hiding out in bushes or trees. "Nah, no one wants AJ." Brian joked. "Anyway, it's late. No fan in their right mind would be out this late in search of AJ." He added. "I guess. Hopefully there is a fan hiding out. He deserves it after all those years of tossing me out of limos and tourbuses first."
