Chapter Two |
Alexandra ran around her large upscale New York apartment looking for all the suitcases she owned. After two hours of packing all the clothes that she could think to pack, she glanced around her living room. She couldnt understand why she didnt feel any sort of excitement or dread. It felt like she was going on a weekend vacation only to never return. She was quickly brought out of her daze when she heard her phone ringing off in the distance. Alexandra dodged across her living room, hopped over the coffee table, and dove on top of her bed to retrieve her cordless.
"Hello!?" She shouted out of breath into the receiver. "You sound like you were, hehehe, busy." Her friend Keely said. "Shit Keel, what the hell do you want?" Alexandra joked. "Wow Miss Career has turned into Miss Bitch. Whens the last time you got laid, girl?" Keely replied. "Its been awhile." Alexandra mumbled. "What was that? You didnt just say that John was your last good ride." Keely said. "Keel? Do me a favor? Go take a long walk down 5th and call me when your hormones return to normal." Alexandra joked back knowing that Keely hated the men in nice suites who seemed to loiter the area. "Eww thanks Xanda, I needed that. Yuppies in expensive suites and nose jobs. No thanks." Keely said with a shiver. "So? Whats the reason youre calling." Alexandra said flat out. "Oh right! Wanna go out tonight? Just for old times sake." She thought about it for a moment before deciding what to do. "I guess. Want me to meet you at the usual?" Alexandra asked. "You know it! Oh, and let your hair down. The guys love it!" Keely mussed. "Uh, sure girl. Whatever. See ya at 8!" Alexandra quickly hung up the phone and glanced around her bedroom. "SHIT!" She shouted before throwing herself down face first on her bed. The overwhelming feeling of moving finally hit her.

"So youre really going to move?" Keely asked as they shared a taxi home. "Yeah. They really need someone at the Orlando firm." Alexandra said. "But Xanda, you have millions invested. Why not just retire early and stay in New York to party with me." Keely pleaded. "Keel, its not about money. Its about work and thats what keeps me going. When things with John ended I didnt know what to do with my life and finally I think Im ready to move on. Johns right, this could be the start of a whole new life." She explained. Keely had many things to say about John but decided that her friend didnt need to hear any of it so she ignored her feelings. "Im gonna miss you. Who will I get to party with while youre in Florida?" Keely whined. "I dunno about that but I promise to visit you when I can." The taxi pulled up to Alexandras apartment building and waited patiently while the girls said their good-byes. "So promise me that youll be here on Saturday to keep an eye on the movers when they come to pack up my stuff." Alexandra said as she paid the taxi driver. "I promise! And promise me that if you meet any hot guys out there then youll send them my way." Keely stated. "Im not sure about that but Ill try my best." Both girls giggled as Alexandra waved good-bye.

At 2pm Alexandras phone rang. "Oh who the hell is that?" She groaned as she felt her head pound. "Yeah?" She said with a hoarse voice. "Xand? Is that you?" John asked. "I think." Alexandra replied as she rubbed her eyes. "Damn girl. What did you do last night?" He asked with concern and a mild amount of amusement. "I dont remember. I remember drinking with Keel, begging her to be here on Saturday to watch the movers, and the feel of my head hitting the pillow." Alexandra explained. "Ah, hangover. I gotcha." John replied. "So? Whats up?" Alexandra asked as she sat up and yawned. "Um, your plane tickets are at the ticket counter and your reservations are at the Four Seasons for two weeks and you have a car reserved for a month. I think thats about it." John stated. "Thats it? Nothing else?" Alexandra asked hoping for one last word of kindness from John. "Nope, nothing else. Hey I gotta run! Melody is yelling for me to come and get the baby while she finishes grading some papers so I better go. Have a safe flight and feel free to call me whenever you need someone to talk with." John said before he hung up the phone. Alexandra looked at the phone before muttering "prick".

Later that night Alexandra walked around her living room looking for her shoes. She didn't want to be late as she tried to figure out where her favorite pair of shoes were. After finding one of them under the coach and the other inside one of the hanging lights Alexandra slipped them on. She laughed as she tried to remember how her shoe got caught in the light. "Must have been some party last weekend. Too bad I cant remember it." Alexandra said aloud as she stood up to look herself over in the full length mirror that was behind her bedroom door. Alexandra sucked in her stomach as she turned to admire her side profile. "No more McDonalds, girl!" She scolded herself. She turned back around to check her hair that was pulled halfway up. "Grow dammit!" She shouted as she tugged on her medium length dark hair. Alexandra adjusted her black designer pants and black and silver clingy shirt. "If only I were taller." She commented as she stared at her thin 53" frame. She quickly shrugged off the negative thoughts and decided that moving to Orlando was for the best. It was time to move on in her life and time for a fresh start. Alexandra glanced down at her watch and realized that it was finally time to leave for Orlando. "Here goes nothing!" She stated as she grabbed her three suitcases and handed them to the waiting doorman. She tossed her backpack over her shoulder and grabbed her laptop bag before she walked briskly out the door.

"Flight 804 nonstop to Orlando now boarding at gate 32." The announcer shouted over the loud speaker. Alexandra grabbed one of her smaller pilot suitcases, backpack, and laptop bag and walked in a daze onto the plane. "Ugh!" She shouted as she fell to the ground. "Oh god, Im so sorry!" The tall young looking man said as he held out his hand to help her up. Alexandra studied his youthful face and blond hair. 'Surfer probably' she told herself. "I must be in a hurry to get home and I didnt see you. Are you okay?" He asked as he gave her the once over to make sure that there was no damage done. Alexandra nodded her head unable to find her voice. "Im Nick." He replied as he held out his hand for her to shake. "Um, Alexandra." She said when she saw the questioning look on his face. "Nice to meet you. Im assuming that youre heading to Orlando, too. Right?" He questioned as he grabbed her pilot case off the floor. "Yeah, I am." She said quietly as she tossed her backpack over her shoulder. "Um, mind if I help you with this?" Nick asked as he pulled the suitcase behind himself. "I guess but Im sitting in first class." She explained. "Good, so am I." He said with a smile.

As they settled into their seats Nick tried to keep the conversation going. "How long have you lived in Orlando?" Nick asked as he put their luggage into the overhead compartment. "Ask me next week." Alexandra joked as she tried to manage a smile. Her hangover still bothered her and she didn't want to seem rude but she had a lot on her mind and socializing was not what she wanted to do no matter how good looking the guy was. "Ask you next week? You vacationing or moving?" Nick asked as he ordered a bottled water. "Relocating for business." Alexandra stated. "You'll like it. I live in Los Angeles myself but I spend as much time as I can in Orlando. It's my second home." Nick explained. "I hope I'll like it." Alexandra murmurred. "I'm sorry that I'm not being very social, Nick. I just have this really nasty hangover." She explained as Nick sat down. "Oh, okay. No problem. Try to get some rest and hopefully you'll feel better when you wake up." Nick said with a small smile. "I will." Alexandra smiled back before she turned around to sit back in her seat.
Once the plane was off the ground Alexandra snuggled into her seat a row in front of Nick and fell asleep. Nick thought she was pretty but she was a bit older than he was and seemed less than interested in him. 'Man, AJ would freak.' Nick thought when he leaned over to give her the once over. Alexandra seemed like a no nonsense, straight forward girl who liked to get crazy once in a while but she also seemed untouchable. Alexandra's body language screamed "back off" but the way she spoke lead other people to believe that she was lonely. Nick was used to meeting pretty girls on his flight and didn't think any differently of Alexandra as he fell asleep.

"Hey sleepy head, wake up." Alexandra whispered to Nick as she gently shook his arm. "Huh? Wha?" Nick questioned as his eyes fluttered open. "We landed a few minutes ago. It's time to go." Alexandra said. Nick smiled slightly as Alexandra handed him a piece of Cinnaburst gum. "I think you need this more than I do." She said implying that he had 'morning breath'. Nick was shocked about her change in attitude for a split second before it occured to him that she was feeling better. He took the gum with a slight laugh as he watched Alexandra climb onto her seat to pull down the overhead luggage.
"Need help?" He asked as he stood up. "Just because I'm a little bit shorter than you are doesn't mean I can't do this by myself." Alexandra replied with a grin as she handed Nick his laptop bag. "You're about 9 inches shorter than me!" Nick pointed out. "Shut up and take your luggage." She scolded as she practically tossed him his bag. "Mr. Carter..." a flight attendent greeted Nick. "Um, be right back." He told Alexandra as he walked away to talk with the flight attendent. "Mr. Carter, you have some fans outside. Your friends are out there waiting and I was asked to pass along the information." She told Nick as she watched him pull out a fishermans hat and a pair of oversized sunglasses. Nick nodded in agreement and thanked her as he turned around to find that Alexandra was gone. Nick sighed and grabbed his luggage as he walked off the plane. He looked around for Alexandra and noticed that she was nowhere to be seen. "Hey." Nick jumped into the air and turned around to find Brian and AJ laughing under their baseball caps. "Thanks for scaring the shit outta me, fellas." Nick stated. "No problem." AJ said. "That's why we're here." Brian added. Nick looked around again for Alexandra but couldn't find her. "Lookin' for that fly girl with the tight black pants?" AJ asked with a smirk. "Actually..." Nick said with a nod. "She took off that way." Brian pointed down towards the bagage claim. "Got some bagage you wanna pick up?" AJ asked with a knowing grin.
