"EMILY!!!!! PAY ATTENTION!!!!!" shouted Emily's team mates. Emily blushed and yelled back "I WAS!!!! MAYBE IF YOU WEREN'T SO BUSY YELLING AT ME--" but she was interrupted as the volleyball flew right past her face. "I hate gym..." she thought to herself. Ignoring the screams of her team and the cheers of the other team, Emily thankfully trudged back down to the locker room. The other girls immediately began to hassle her. "Maybe a certain KNOW IT ALL should LEARN to play volleyball!!" laughed one. Other girls joined in her giggles. Emily bit back her tears and walked past the girl. "Maybe a certain CHEERLEADER should learn to ace a quiz!!" she thought to herself. One period later, Emily wasn't in a much better mood. Her Stupid Cousin had been bugging her all day, she'd had her Science test copied by the person sitting next to her, she had to go to recess BEFORE lunch instead of after, she was starving, she'd gone outside into the freezing cold for ten minutes until she found out that it was indoor recess that day, and now she stood in the tiny gym, she shoved and yelled at and knocked on the head with basketballs by people. She walked to a corner and sat down. Then she closed her eyes and sighed... "Hey, what's wrong?" asked Rowen. He'd been perched outside on Mia's porch railing reading a book when Emily appeared. "School..." she sighed again. "Oh, don't feel bad!!! C'mere!!" she walked over and he gave her a big hug. He'd thought of Emily as a little sister ever since he'd met her. "Don't worry about THEM!!!" he said. "They're just mean!! And they don't have any REAL friends!!" "I'm beginning to think that I don't have any friends either..." Emily murmured. "That's not true!!! What about those people you're always talking about?! Alicia, Jamie, Lindsay, Leigha, Felicia, all them!!!! They're your friends, aren't they?" "Well, stupid Chris gave Alicia, Jamie, and Lindsey the flu, so they're all out sick today. And Felicia's on the other team. And Leigha doesn't even go to my school." "Well, what about US? WE'RE you're friends!" Emily smiled. "Thanks. I don't know what I'd do without you guys. In my world, everyone's so...OH MY GOD!!!!!!! MY WORLD! RECESS MUST BE OVER!!!!!!!! I'VE GOT TO GO!!!" She gave him a quick hug, and then concentrated on her world... SMACK!!!! Emily noticed that her head was stinging as she opened her eyes. She looked up to see the girl from gym class standing over her, with a basketball in her hand. She'd been bouncing it off of Emily's head. "So, you're finally back with us?" the girl said with a smirk. "We thought you weren't going to make it. Mrs. Bitch Teacher told me to go get you because you seemed like you were asleep again." Emily stood up and rubbed her smarting head. "Thanks." She walked off to lunch, trying to ignore the snickering behind her. She then had to eat lunch with her Stupid Cousin because of stupid Chris's stupid flu epidemic. Stupid Cousin chattered on and on about a girl that he was fighting with. "So, will you?" he asked Emily. "Hmm? Will I what?" "WIll you ASK OKSANA IF SHE HAS A CRUSH ON MATT???" "Sure..." "You're not even paying attention, are you?" "Nope." "Why? Are you off in the--" he emphasized the words by doing the "Mag-ma" thing from Austin Powers--" 'Other World'? You seem to be going there a lot lately. Are you in looooooooooove with somebody there?" he added innocently. "No," Emily glared at him. "And I'm here. If I was THERE then I wouldn't be able to answer your questions HERE, duh!" But Stupid Cousin wouldn't shut up. "Emily's got a crush! Emily's got a crush!" Emily glared at him again. "I'm leaving. Bring me back when lunch is over, OK?" Stupid Cousin may have been a jerk, but he knew when things were serious. "Sure," he said, and Emily closed her eyes... "Back already?" Emily opened her eyes to the path that wound through the forest. "Yupp, I'm BACK!" she smiled. The people here were so nice. Not like those jerks at school! Rowen and Cye stood in the middle of the path. They'd obviously been out for a walk, and when Emily asked if they'd been headed anywhere in particular, they told her that they were going to the stream. "Can I come?" "Sure," Cye said. It wasn't just Rowen who thought of her as a little sister; ALL the guys did. Mia was very motherly towards Emily, and Yuli was still pretty afraid of her for some reason. Emily hummed as she walked to the stream with them. She watched Cye jump into the water the moment they arrived. She jumped in and --heaven forbid!--GIGGLED as he had the fish swim right up to her face. Then she began to flicker. "Stupid Cousin..." she murmured. "Time to go! Bye!" Emily went through the rest of the day humming a song that Sage had taught her and feeling a WHOLE lot better. It was nice to know that she could go to see everyone in the Other World any time she wanted. School went with no more problems until the end of the day. Emily was trying to pull her backpack out of her tiny locker when her binder went flying across the hall, where it was kicked and stepped on. Then, walking out the door, she slid on some ice, where she was promptly helped up by some kid and who then whitewashed her, and as she finally plopped down next to Felicia on the bus she didn't even get the window seat. Felicia seemed in a bad mood too. When Emily asked for the window seat, Felcia snapped back "NO!". Emily just sat there dejectedly. "Maybe I'll go see the guys again..." she began to think, but something stopped her. The girl from gym class had just gotten on the bus and Emily noticed Felicia looking even more furious. The girl stopped at their seat. "Soooooooo," she began. "It's the bitch!" Emily started to reply when she realized that the girl was talking to Felicia. The girl went on to insult her for nearly half the bus ride before Emily couldn't stand it anymore. "SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!!!" "Oh, it's YOU," the girl said with distaste, as if she hadn't noticed that Emily was there. "Well well well..." she cackled. Emily couldn't believe she'd never noticed how the girl sounded like a witch before. The girl began to insult Emily too. Emily just stared at her. She didn't reply, or take up any of the challenges. But you could see the anger mounting. Finally, the girl reached over and slapped her. Hard. "What'sa matter?" she sneered. "Asleep again?!" Emily stared at her in surprise and rage. Suddenly, she closed her eyes. "Oh NO, she's drifted off AGAIN!!!" cried the girl in a fake voice. "Wimp!" All of the sudden, the girls hand came up and smacked her in the face. Over and over. Again and again. The bus driver glanced back. "Ashley! Stop it!" she yelled. "I...I c-can't!" the girl cried. "I-I'm n-not doing this on...on purpose!!!" The bus driver yelled and yelled, but Ashley wouldn't stop, so she finally stopped the bus and came down the back. But she couldn't stop Ashley's hand either. Meanwhile, Emily was sitting in her seat with her eyes closed... "So," said Rowen, grinning, "THAT is how you get revenge. But don't tell anyone, ESPECIALLY Ryo, that I told you that, or I'll be in BIG trouble." "Ok. Thanks, Ro. And thank YOU too, Kento, for making sure she got hit EXTRA hard. You two are really great guys. Thanks again. I mean it." She gave him a hug and said "Well, I'd probably better be going." "No! Wait!" cried Kento. "Why?" "Because you want to wait until she gets a bloody nose, don't ya?" |
