The Labyrinth Mailing Lists

What are the mailing lists all about?

The history of the Labyrinth Mailing Lists is getting more and more complicated as the weeks go by. With the demise of [email protected], Amethyst's original Labyrinth Mailing List ( processed through a lovely program called Major Domo), two new mailing lists had emerged. [email protected] was the first to replace the old list, and [email protected] was the second. The purpose of the second list was to allow subscribers to enjoy fanfiction and poetry that they otherwise could not receive due to the enormous amount of traffic on the first Labyrinth list preventing them from subscribing. We had numerous difficulties with the free Coollists, so Sp00ky girl re-established the lists on a Major Domo powered progam Wednesday, October 8, 1997, almost one year after the creation of Amethyst's original Labyrinth Mailing List. There is now a Labyrinth Role Play list, [email protected] created by Maria-Christine Egen Tsodo but now run by someone else. For all the details, check out that mailing list's page.

If you have recently discovered the abundance of Labyrinth web sites and have signed up on another page for one or both of the old Coollist Mailing Lists, please unsubscribe from them and sign up for the newest Major Domo lists. Traffic has stopped on the Coollists because everyone moved over to the Major Domo lists and Coollist often crashes, leaving everyone wondering which oubliette it has fallen into this week. You can find out how to unsubscribe from the Coollists at the earlier version of this page.

How do I unsubscribe?

Members ask to be unsubscribed from any of the lists by E-mailing [email protected] with the following command in the body of your email message:

unsubscribe labyrinth [email protected]

and/or alternatively:

unsubscribe labyrinth-fanfic [email protected]

and/or alternatively:

unsubscribe labyrinth-roleplay [email protected]

If you have any questions or problems about labyrinth or labyrinth-fanfic, please contact their creator Sp00ky girl; for questions or problems about labyrinth-roleplay, Maria-Christine will be happy to assist. Shan, ([email protected]), Sp00ky's friend, runs the technical aspects of the mailing lists and may also provide assistance.

What can I post?

Feel free to post an introduction/bio of yourself when you join, any kind of question or comment concerning Labyrinth, a Labyrinth dream you've had - anything at all. We've also gotten a touch off-topic and had exclusive conversations about Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie - heck, even his son! This is the kind of stuff appearing daily on [email protected].

The second list, [email protected], is exclusively for fanfiction such as poetry and stories. Comments regarding a story should either be sent directly to the author, or, if you have a rather insightful comment to offer (something more than, "I liked it! Can't wait for the next chapter!) then you can share this with [email protected]. Fanfic authors live for this kind of attention, so don't feel shy about telling them how much you liked a story or poem!

The third list, labyrinth-roleplay, consists of Round Robins (stories where everyone is free to add their own chapter) and role-playing continually in progress. You can be yourself or a character of your invention there.

What should I not do?

  1. Prohibited on both lists is the posting of "chain letters" and "make money" pyramid schemes etc.
  2. Also despised on the lists are short or one-line responses which have quoted an entire message. I've read that it is customary to quote no more than four lines of text and to add at least that much in response. If you need to quote more than four lines, then you should paraphrase instead.
  3. Please edit your messages and do not merely hit the reply button. You may not realize that your mailer is attaching the entire original message at the bottom of your response when it is mailed. You may want to try out your software with a friend first, to see if this happens, particularly if you have America OnLine.
  4. It is a bad idea to post attachments of any kind to any list. A lot of mail accounts, such as Juno, cannot receive them.
