The

Jarod Russell is a genius whose exceptional intelligence allows him to master virtually any profession. There is no one on Earth like Jarod. He uses his skill to become a one-man, nonviolent vigilante force for justice --- despite being stalked by agents of The Centre.

Young Jarod Taken from his parents as a child in the early 1960s, Jarod spent decades isolated under the caring instruction of Sydney, a psychiatrist at The Centre, a think-tank that sold the services of Jarod's computer-like mind to the highest bidder.

The Centre trained him to be a "human chameleon," so brilliant he could assume any identity, solve any puzzle. He thought he was creating "simulations:" organizing military coups, manipulating financial markets, plotting terrorist strikes. But when he learned others were using his results to stage actual misdeeds, Jarod was incensed.

Adult Jarod As an adult, Jarod fled The Centre to make up for some of the wrongs he'd inadvertently caused, and now uses his unique ability to master any subject, thus enabling him to assume various identities. Jarod's quest takes him to new settings as he assumes new jobs: a tanker captain who stops toxic dumpers; a surgeon exposing a deadly hospital; an airline pilot battling unsafe skies. His brilliance and charm help him assume any personality, but genius alone isn't always enough to get him out of a jam. That's because Jarod has only experienced the world through books; in some ways, he's still a child.

Centre Staff Meanwhile, Jarod is concerned The Centre will find out who, and where he is. He must elude the alluring, single-minded Miss Parker and her posse of Centre operatives. Dr. Sydney Green, who raised him, just wants him back. But others want him stopped dead.

Always one step ahead of The Centre, Jarod seeks emotional retribution for disenfranchised or powerless individuals by turning the tables against those who abuse their privileges and seem beyond the reach of the law. Along the way, an ingenuous Jarod makes his own simple discoveries about life in the real world beyond the Centre --- all while searching for the truth about his own parents (and himself), whose identities remain a mystery to him.

Even if Jarod's task is monumental, he's undaunted. After all, he was raised to think nothing was impossible.
