In 1947, Gladys starred as Mrs. Hamilton in the comedy, "The Bishop's Wife". This movie also starred Cary Grant, Loretta Young, and David Niven. That same year, Gladys made "Green Dolphin Street" with Van Heflin. She would go on to star with him in one of my favorite movies of all times.
Van Heflin and Jennifer Jones in "Madame Bovary".
"Madame Bovary" was made in 1949, and besides Gladys and Van, it also starred Louis Jourdon, Gene Lockhart, Christopher Kent, and (who else?) Jennifer Jones. I absolutely adore this great movie, which also features James Mason as the author Gustave Flaubert. So classic movie fans should definitely check out this movie! If you're still doubtful, take a look at my "Madame Bovary" page. (a link is provided below)
In 1958, Gladys was in a movie that starred many of Hollywood's biggest names. It was "Separate Tables". The movie, about a group of people who stay at a seaside hotel, also starred Rita Hayworth, David Niven, Burt Lancaster, Deborah Kerr, and Rod Taylor.
In 1964, Gladys starred in the televison series, "The Rogues", which lasted until 1965. Also in 1964, Gladys starred in "The loverliest motion picture of them all!"
Gladys was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role as Mrs. Higgins in "My Fair Lady". This musical, which has become a classic, also starred Audrey Hepburn as cockney Eliza Doolittle, and Rex Harrison, who won an Oscar for his role as Henry Higgins.
Gladys's last role was Aunt Mary in "A Nice Girl Like Me" in 1969. On November 17th, 1971, Gladys Cooper died of pneumonia at the age of 82.
