Life Has Good Times - And Bad Part 15

By the time we finally got into the van, it was time to go to the arena where their concert was going to be held.

"We still have three hours!" whined Nick.

"No, Nick," scolded his mother (I think that's so sweet!). "You only have three hours to get there, rehearse, shower, change, warm up, sign autographs, and then change again." He shut up.

Denise (Mrs. McLean) drove while Jane (Mrs. Carter) sat in the passenger's seat. In the first row of seats, Brian, Howie, and AJ sat. In the next row, Nick, me, then Kevin. It was pretty stuffy in there. We had to turn on the a/c full blast since we were still pretty hot from laughing so hard.

"Mom! Can you turn on the radio, please?" asked Nick. Jane cupped her hand around her ear and turned around.

"What?!" Yes, the air conditioner was that loud!

"TURN ON THE RADIO!" Jane nodded. She turned the a/c down a notch (thank you!) and switched on the local R&B station. Although the a/c wasn't that loud anymore, she turned the radio on pretty loud. We all listened in. I guess everyone was tired of laughing and shouting. We all wanted to rest.

"Hello and good afternoon everyone! That was the latest from Ace Of Base, 'Cruel Summer'. I've been getting quite a few phone calls asking about the Backstreet Boys concert later this evening. Guess what fans? You're in luck! We have about a dozen tickets, see, I'm holding all of them in my hand! When you hear one of the Boys songs (we'll play quite a few of them this hour) be called number 18 and win a pair of tickets! We also have a special surprise for the first winner...good luck!"

After that, he played Aerosmith.

"Wow!" I exclaimed. "Pretty nifty. I can't believe the tickets weren't sold out yet!" The boys nodded.

"Well actually, some tickets didn't go on sale to the public so radio stations and contests could give 'em away," explained Kevin.

"Oh." We tuned in the radio again. We heard 'As Long As You Love Me' come on. I smiled. 'I'm in a van with the singers to this song!' I thought. 'It's too good to be true!' I sat back and relaxed. The song always made me so happy.

"Yup, folks! That song is a Backstreet Boys song! We're on caller number 14. Get to the phone quick and call in! 16...17...ding! Ding! Ding! Hello?" The DJ said.

"Hello?" asked a girl over the phone.

"Who's this?" the DJ asked.

"Uh, my name's Katie Hess," she replied.

"Well Katie, just a guess, but do you like the Backstreet Boys?" We heard her kind of squeal. Nick grinned, I have no idea why.

"YES! Um, sorry. Am I the 18th caller?" she said excitedly.

"Hmm, let me think. Is she the 18th caller? Yes, Katie! You have won two tickets to see the Backstreet Boys perform live at 6:00!"

We heard screaming and crying and we could make out some "Thank you's" too.

"We also said we have a special surprise. You know what it is? Backstage passes, Katie! You will see the Boys live and meet them!" We heard a gasp. Nick now had a smile so big, it almost made me sick.

"You're kidding," whispered Katie. "Wow! This is the best day of my life! I've loved the Backstreet Boys since they came out! This will be my first concert, thank you so much!" They next played a song I never heard of. The boys chuckled a bit.

"I'm kind of looking forward to meeting her," said Brian. They all agreed. I decided to ask Nick.

"Nick, why are you so happy?" He turned over to look at me.

"I don't know. When I heard her voice, I was like "Wow!" you know? It's weird. I just can't wait to meet her!" I frowned. I thought,

'Uh oh.'
