A 2nd Chance Part 16

written by: Katie

Katie picked out a beautiful dress. It was strapless and had a beautiful bodice embroidered with pearls. It had a short train and there was a long piece of blue silk that wrapped around her waist and went down to her train. She and Lauren had been looking all over the place, and now they both had wonderful dresses. Lauren's dress was a lot like Katie's except it had long beautiful sleeves that she wore on her thin arms. It wasn't embroidered with pearls, but with little white rhinestones. She also had a short train.

Lauren and Katie didn't have Brides' Maids, they didn't need one, they were in it together. They would have been each other's but now they couldn't. Brian had Kevin be his Best Man and Nick picked A.J. There were no hard feelings and everyone was glad. Lauren's father flew down to give her away and Katie decided to let Howie give her away, so now everyone was involved in the wedding. The wedding was going to be at Nick's old house in Tampa. They had lots of land and they put beautiful flowers all over the place and had a bunch of white chairs. It was going to be difficult to keep the press away, but they guys didn't mind, this was going to be the happiest day of their lives.

The morning of the wedding, everyone was excited and nervous, they couldn't wait for 1 o'clock to come when the priest would pronounce them husbands and wives. All the guys had wonderful tuxedos on, with their own little flair. Kevin's shirt and tie were light blue, Nick's were light green, Brian's were dark blue, A.J.'s was orange and Howie's was yellow, they were all happy with themselves.

They took a separate limousine to the house. Katie and Lauren had one to themselves and the guys had another. They just sat there for the three hour drove and talked. Katie and Lauren didn't mind that they weren't going on honeymoons, but instead, they were going to two different hotels to be together. They were going to have the reception and then drive back to Orlando to the hotels.

The three hours went by slowly, but they talked to each other about how much they loved their future spouse and if life would be different went they got married. They all didn't think so, they just thought that it would get better.

They got to the house and within an hour they were both standing in front of the priest. Howie had told Katie before the wedding that he was honored to be giving her away. She felt close to him, they got along well, he was probably her 3rd best friend behind Lauren and Brian. He was very sweet and was always a good listener and put people ahead of himself. The others did too, but they were always out, or busy. Howie had girlfriends, but always remembered to include his friends.

Within 10 minutes the vows were said and they were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Littrell and Mr. and Mrs. Carter. They all smiled and kissed each other and ran to the limousines. They had a quick reception at the local hotel. They didn't want to stay there that long because they were afraid press or fans would show up. They said hello to all of the family and friends that had come and were back in the limousine and on their way to Orlando. They were now sharing the limousine, the extra one was being brought home empty.

"So how does it feel to be a married man?" A.J. asked, he had no idea what it would feel like to commit himself to just one woman for the rest of his life, she would have to very special. "Great!" They both said at the same time, then looked at each other and laughed and then looked at their brides and kissed them. The ride was quiet, they chatted about new songs that they had written and television shows that they would like to appear on in the future.

"Jay Leno! Man that guy is MAD funny!" A.J. yelled. "Yeah, especially when he makes fun of us," Kevin said with a small smile. He loved the show and had to watch it all the time. "He is scary looking too!" Lauren said and shivered like she had had a bad dream about him once. Everyone laughed and continued to talk, then the driver dropped Lauren and Nick at the first hotel and then Katie and Brian at the second.

Brian and Katie walked up to the Bridal Suite and looked in awe. It was huge and was the most luxurious thing either of them had seen before. She walked around uncomfortably, "God, I have to get out of this stupid thing, I feel like I am going to sweat to death," she said. It was only the second week of December, but it was hot in the dress and it was not to chilly outside. "Tell me about it," Brian said and came over and began to unzip it.

Lauren and Nick were running all around the building, having the time of their lives. They loved the room they got and the hotel was nice, too. It was still early so they just walked around. Several times Nick was recognized, but they saw him with his Bride and left him alone. He looked so happy, and so did she. They didn't think they were to young to get married, they were just starting and they knew that they would have the time of their lives, they certainly did that night.

Meanwhile, A.J. sat at home. He was bored, it certainly was quiet without Nick and Brian, they had always made things interesting. Howie and Kevin had gone clubbing, A.J. was tired so he had stayed home, but now he was going out of his mind from boredom. He decided to look at some of the fan mail, he only looked at the ones that were addressed to either him, or the whole group, but there was rarely any for just him. He didn't mind that Nick and Brian were sometimes the heartthrobs to the group, but he would like to get some mail now and again.

As he thought he looked down and saw an envelope that had his name written on it in beautiful, graceful, pink handwriting. He opened the letter and read it to himself.

"Dear Mr. McLean,
My name is Nancy Summerman, I am a huge fan, but I guess you get that a lot. I am 24 years old and I live in Michigan, I have a job as a teacher for mentally disabled youngsters, mostly because of my sister. Alexandria (weird, almost the same name as you!) was diagnosed with A.D.D when she was eight years old, also the year that our parents died in a terrible plane crash up in Canada, I was 18 so I legally had to go on my own, and I refused to give up Alexandria. I taught her all that I could but she drifted away, she was then diagnosed with leukemia, which nearly killed me. Now, 6 years after my parents death, I am living here in Minnesota all by myself. Poor Alex died from the terrible disease of cancer 4 years after being diagnosed. Everyone thought she was going to make it, but she didn't, the disease came back with a vengeance and now I am here by myself. Your part comes in when I heard that voice of yours. That voice that is so melodic, yet so different from anything I have heard before. You were different, your voice, your clothing, your personality. I wanted to be like you, to bare all and not be afraid to show what I am made up of. So far, I have done good. I am not shy like I used to be after the death of my parents, now I am outgoing, with restraint, I don't want to get carried away. You are an inspiration for all young people, actually for people of all ages. My pupils enjoy your work, as well as the other guys, but they love you, as I do. You are different, like them. Maybe you aren't disabled, but you stick out like my students. I don't know... it is hard to explain, but I hope you understand. Please keep on groovin' and I promise to never give up hope. Good luck and
Best Wishes,
With all my love,
Nancy"

He understood it, every last word of it, that's why he hopped onto the next flight for Minnesota.
